The ova is definitely one of my favorite. It was also nice to finally see them interact with a human on a more personal level. A lot of jokes are made that the cast thinks they are better than humans. With the ova we see that's not actually the case.

If you like tone switching in comedy anime, Gintama handles it wonderfully switching from it's 4th wall gag breaking joke episodes, to serious action centric arcs, to some truly heartbreaking stories that can make any character in the show break down.

Actually, it's a funny trash show (i'm not a hater), but there are some really good episodes like eps 7,11 and OVA 2. I also made a crack crossover fanfic of this and Magi: Labyrinth of Magic.

I would say the moral of the story, the true moral of the story is that so called heavenly kingdom upon our moon is not so heavenly after all. The angels were permitted to hurt people, bully, and do bad things but when one helps someone they're banished for it! Even in Dragonball Super the angels weren't allowed to help but they were allowed to do evil. Beyond the anime I have often heard of this so called prime directive before and I say it stinks.

The manual labor was probably just typical work stuff. Her punishment for breaking Heaven's rule was a temporary decrease in money and to have the girl forget what she did for her.

I have no idea why neither you Anigami nor the comments have pointed out this, but I, a Japanese non-Christian viewer, see this episode as the very core of what "dropout" implies. The punchline, which does exist of course, is that Gabriel deliberately dropped out of the Christian order and that dropping out is not bad after all. I see this episode as the director's challenge to Christian orthodoxy. If you see the FULL size ED of the anime, you can also clearly see the similar message in the lyrics. This second OVA finally revealed (netabare) what the director wanted to accomplish via the medium of anime at the very start of the entire animation media mix project. I have followed the original comics for a while even after the anime ended, but there seems no sign of any deep religious structure in the comics side, so I guess that this aspect is limited to the anime version. I personally find it very interesting that Japanese animes tend to have deep, intellectual and moving lyrics only in the later non-broadcaseted parts of the OP/ED. This anime pursued the extreme in this direction, and used the entire series as the prelude towards this hidden OVA according to my interpretation. This anime is one of a few animes along with Lucky Star, Hyoka, Cells at Work and some others in which I clearly favor the anime over the original.
