I watched this movie yesterday on prime and I think everyone can relate to a dozens of people exactly like these characters, even Shottu. But I relate to that entire group. On my first year of college, I also became a part of this big group where I was the new guy and those people have been friends for like 2 years. It is surreal how accurate these movie characters were to my group. They were all very extroverted, loudmouth partygoers so they were easy to get along. Very soon, I realized they were actually very selfish and shallow people. Even the women in the group were not respected by the guys exactly as shown in the movie but I think they still hung around because of the similar interests. They all like to pick on people who were perceived weaker. One time they picked on another student exactly like Shottu, next time they picked on a cabbie while drunk outside the club. The guys started threatening the cabbie who refused ride because of limited seating rule. The cabbie was a simple, respectful guy who kept saying please find a bigger ride. After seeing him scared, the guys went even harder and the girls also joined in and started insulting the poor cabbie. Its unbelievable, how disrespectful women can get once they realize they have the power. I was young back then so it was my first time noticing such poor behavior, especially from women. Never hung out with them after that. You find true friends "not in the first year, but in the final year of college". Made some good friends later. It takes time to build friendship with true people because of the boundaries but it lasts longer. This movie reminded me of that college group. I wonder, if they've changed or grown up to become just like these movie characters

Agree. For me it is also too tough to get comfortable with the group. Sometimes few individual understand me, but some of them does not. I don't drink and smoke, also i respect everyone, so mostly they exclude me. It feels like you're with them and yet you're alone. anyway , i look after them when they're too drunk. Kindness is the best cure ❤

I remember being absolutely mesmerized by this movie when it came out. Even made my friends go to the cinema hall and watch it with me. Don't know why, but not enough people talk about A Death in the Gunj. So, thank you for this analysis ❤

Each and everyone in that family was an obstacle for him to get back to his life ... Even tho bonnie had an opposite opinion of her husband's she never cared to put up her voice against the wrong where she could have ( like in that planchat scene) .. his masi in few scenes seem to care but finally nd eventually got mixed up in the jam..again never done anything wrong to him but never tried know deeper of him .they were those who didn't commited the crime but where spectators who didn't cared to react .. guiltier than those three ...life has been creul to him ..he lost before life..but wont he be considered a hero for the battles he won throughout the journey? The destiny is destined but the journey isn't....

This movie enters and dissect the thoughts that run in the mind of any person struggling in life to overcome his or her demons with all the strength they gather and yet succumb to it at the end.

A very insightful analysis of a very beautiful film! I had no idea what I was about to get into when I first watched this film back in 2017, just because it was Konkona's directorial debut. But then, did I get absolutely moved! The suffocations of Shutu and the coldness around him often feel more truer in the times we live, sadly. You've made really intriguing points about the film's theme in this video essay. Kudos.

I remember how I got to see this amazing film. I watched it in one movie binge game I binged 16 films in a week suggested by 16 random people and in all those 16 movies this movie completely broke me tbh I ranked it 5 ofc there are few more great films but tbh I'm so glad that they recommend me to this film in all of them.Vikrant M. was just great and Konkona Sen did an amazing directorial debut I would love to watch more of her directorial film. Thank you for making a video and bringing this closer to the audience and really very well explained.

the only person who wanted and cared for him in the whole world was his mother.and he didnt give a shit about her cries and pleading instead was shamelessly trying to fit in into a fake world with fake people, trying to find love and impress people who dont even care whether he is dead or alive..Hence for me Only sad thing about his death was.that his mother is now all alone .. everytime he called and didnt speak to his mother who could hear and feel his silence ,I felt like slapping him tight across his face..

Woh apni mummy ko psand nhi krta tha, isiliye relatives k sath rahne aya tha jab do paise nhi the uske pass. And didn't even talk to his mother on phone why? His mother must have told him failure or something as he failed in exams. I think.
