If it broke when it was still a solid piece, how will it hold up now that it is three pieces joined by a thread and a surface weld? It will break with half the effort.

Considering he tightens it with a pipe wrench directly on teeth of gear, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Work with what you got basically. He probably has 30/30 warranty, 30 feet or 30 seconds, which ever comes first.

This reminds me of the old smithy where I was allowed to make these kind of repairs when I was a apprentice. Keeping the old machines up and running with repairs instead of expensive new parts. Nowadays we just throw it in the bin and get new parts or even scrapping the whole thing. But hey, modern times, modern ways. Love to watch these guys.
