Unscripted and unedited, just raw sharing. Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) isn't new, but now the secret is out. The Ukraine invasion has brought it to the forefront of news and social media. Now analysts at The Intel Lab are using their developed a deep learning algorithm (a sort of Artificial Intelligence / AI) to measure the impact on shipping. This is real-world analysis.

Why use not “coast watchers” that is people on coastal areas. Logging and reporting naval ship movements. Yes slower, but one more tool in the tool box.

They exist, more popularly called ship spotters. Some knowing, some unwitting. But they have limited sight, endurance and are geographically contained. In wartime they may be deemed as spies etc.

@@FirstDagger Sure, but volunteers don’t need payment. A sense of duty to country, or doing something in their own small way. When added all together will make a difference in the bigger picture. The AIS inputs to sites like Marine Traffic already come from guys setting up an antenna and SDR radio on their balcony, and connected to the internet, receiving AIS ship locations and uploading it to the tracking sites. Much better than manual observation. All traffic sites depends on this type of data crowdsourcing, the same as the ADS-B aircraft tracking sites like flightaware. Sometimes paid subscriptions include satellite-received AIS/ADS-B, as some satellites receive and relay this data, usually for oceanic locations.

I have a spare mic and accoutrements sitting around that you're welcome to have. Not sure how to contact you (I don't use Twitter), but if you have a secure mailing address or something I'd be happy to ship the stuff at my expense. Should work with any system, USB plug-and-play stuff.

Did anyone notice the singular ship a bit north and quite a bit west of the Kerch strait? Just above that curved bay or inlet (not sure what the correct phrase is). It was literally in the same spot on all 3 dates! Edit: it's there on all 4 dates!

4:40 - Capella X-SAR is a US registered company and is subject to US restrictions regarding the minimum commercially available image resolution, which is 0.5m. But theoretically their satellites can reach a resolution of 1.8 cm for an area of 10 km x 10 km.

I've been really impressed with the way Ukrainian civilians are like an open-source OSINT network. Any time someone posts a picture of a Russian tanks they're got it pinpointed near instantly. I was amazed when I tried this with a picture of Spider-Tom and his girlfriend sitting in a restaurant and *knew instantly* this was in Boston. Just the feel of it told me I guess. After 10 or so minutes I found the street address and seats they were sitting in and direction the picture was taken; probable time of day and day of week as well. Spending a few more minutes looking back at weather data, I could likely have narrowed it to an exact date. Not that it's likely to matter, but a baby lemur was born in the Kyiv Zoo today. They named it Bayraktar, lol.

If you are American using American satellites?
@engineeranonymous
@engineeranonymous 2 жыл бұрын
@@HISuttonCovertShores As a non American, my experience is If there is a restriction is involved you will have no response to your requests. Its assumed that the US software might end up in wrong hands like Russia, China ... If you are a commercial firm you might get remote sensing as a service. Even then the data you receive might be tampered in order to protect state security. If you want to make sure you get the true data you need to have the complete end to end system. From satellites to analyzing software.

This is something that is quite easy to build yourself.
@engineeranonymous
@engineeranonymous 2 жыл бұрын
@@peterfireflylund Hi the software that you can use on ground station is relatively easy. Of course you will have data problems but if you can model your sensors you can augment the data or do pure simulation for training. The problem is the satellites. You need to build them in house. Like Planet Labs or Synspective are doing. Of course If you have worked on satellites before it might be easy for you but its hard for me :-) As a final note the latest Chinese video of Jilin-1 satellite tracking a F-22 in flight shows that AI processing on satellite data is a technology that no country can turn a blind eye on.

You only diminish the potential reach of your channel by flippantly dismissing the idea of getting a real microphone. Audio quality is more important than anything you put on screen in terms of viewer retention through the length of the video. Google it.
