I suspect the CV is identifying "a large object that's in between the sky and the sea (two large chunks which each have rather similar properties)". That would be the main filter, which is why the explosion is being tracked. The tracking may merely indicate it's trying to establish if the object it sees is a ship or not. Without seeing a full video, hard to say - but a full video would also provide an adversary with ideas to confuse the algorithm being used, so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Perhaps the operators of Houthi drones have to stay close to activate previously waypointed drone boats and also to target and waypoint from other observations. Once the waypoint is good enough they can let the gyro do its work and drive the drone the rest of the way. It is an interesting system where it is vulnerable to jamming but only in the middle of operation. Its ins to travel long distance and ins at final approach. Evolutionary adaptation to the signal environment lives in i think. I expect many combat drones will work this way demonstrated at sea in the future, with signals being either high speed data control or updating ins and mission packages at brief interludes that can be tactically arranged to accommodate the signals environment. Afaik this is consistent with development in land drones and air drones. But I think here on the open sea, now, its being engineered into a truly robust future architecture.

I've been curious, as most of the inner parts of these things are off the Aliexpress shelf, does China start making sure shipments to Ukraine have issues, or do they want Russia to lose more, afraid to hurt their sales, some combination, etc... And also, are the Houthis actually building their drones or are they being sent as DIY packages from Iran?

Commenting to bump your alg, you put out some great stuff Mr Sutton you're very informative, your erring on the side of caution, and not using conjecture to speak "definitively" on issues is much appreciated, and sorely needed across the platform right now.

5:32 also shout out to North Korean domestic (non-USSR) submarines being mostly single hull (& midget) and on the double hull side, we have good guy countries like the Netherlands & recently Taiwan (which learnt from Dutch double hull designs), although i dont know exactly why the Netherlands chose to continue with the double hull design

Crewed submarines all so old school. 😱😱😱😱 Try catching drone subs where the operator is either in an aircraft or on an innocent "pleasure boat" that can see the Coast Guard coming and submerge the sub and go silent. 🚤🚤🛫🛫💪💪💰💰💰💰💰💰

As a former submariner, I’d like to see a video on biggest misconceptions about subs or media mistakes when portraying subs…for example movies, and ultimately civilians have no clue how sonar actually looks and works. Every movie or show shows active pinging on radar displays to represent how subs look for other subs, when obviously none of that is true. I know there is a line when talking about NB over BB with frequencies, but no one needs the numbers or array capability. The moment I see a movie that gets sonar correct and shows a crew wearing different hoodies over uniforms, I’ll be happy!

What about an "underrated" list of the submarines from non-USA NATO countries that were able to theoretically sink very strategic US navy vessels in two party exercises, with multiple vessels in play, coming under those vessels and not being detected?

Most people don't know that all Russian submarines are made of Titanium so as all Russians jetfighters frames. US has no Titanium nor it had metallurgy knows how to do any manufacturing related to titanium. Long ago CIA secretly created a little company in France to buy Russian titanium to build Sr-71. Then US had problems with development of building a Sr-71 frame. However, US didn't have metallurgy knows how to manufacture mostly anything that's related to Titanium. Russian submarines drive to depths of 600m while US SUPOSEDLY only to 400m. That was kept secretly from US government and American people. Just few years ago there was a secret trial amongst US NAVIES and American company of Submarines manufacturer who fake US submarines standards specification that SUPOSEDLY material used carbon steel alloy can be used up to 400m depth Wich wasn't true. However, trial was held in secret from public and even from US government too. Even today there was no any information what really happened. We even today don't know at what depth US submarines can operate. But what it came on daylight that US submarines cannot operate at depth at 400m as they had told public. Even now American people don't know anything about it. Russian already know that American subs are good as fake news made public to believe. But Russian metallurgy is much more advanced then Americans. That's why Russian had developed Hypersonic missiles over ten years ago and US only trying it and failed over and over again. That's what I said American science of metallurgy isn't as advanced as Russians. Hypersonic missile is definite proof of that. Those facts no one had ever mentioned on KZbin or anywhere for that matter. That's why Russian submarines are better then Americans so as jetfighters too. Carbon steel gas Short life expectancy while Titanium isn't corrosive it has indefinite life expectancy. You don't need to build new submarines every 20 years as US must. Russian could upgrade it and it's good as new. So as jetfighters too. Russian didn't use Carbon Steel in development of jetfighters and submarines. Russian has largest limitless Titanium deposit on planet. US has Zero. Only Russian Airforce Su-30 to su-57 + MiG-31 and MiG-35 are armed with air to air Hypersonic missiles that had made whole Western Airforce OBSOLETE so as NAVIES too. For air to air BVR Hypersonic missiles are R37M range 400km and Feb 2023 new deployed GREMLIN Hypersonic missile mind blowing range.. 1500km. Moreover, Su-34 and Mig-31 are additionally armed with Kinzhal Hypersonic missile range 2000km carriers killers. Russian strategic bombers are also armed with air to sea and air to land targets Zmeyevik Hypersonic range 5000km and Kh-95 air to sea and to land targets range 7000km. Now you know why Western NAVIES is OBSOLETE. Not to mention that Russian Navy and Submarines are armed with Hypersonic missile too. So as best on planet Russian ICBM's who ara all Hypersonic with Mach 20 to Mach 27. Russian only NEEDS president who talk less like Stalin and use weapons that no one have and do the job instead talking in wind like Putin 👎 does. Stalin!!.👌👍👏

Most people are still unaware that Sweden basically picked a side in the Cold War after the Treaty of Fredrikshamn. Yes, that was in 1809 i.e. about 150 years before the start of the Cold War. However, Russia, in whatever official form, has been the enemy ever since and whatever we say publicly, we'll pick whichever side considers Russia the enemy. That we basically joined NATO from a military R&D pov and had a closer intelligence alliance with the US than they had with many official allies is just what you would expect. Still, few do. And yes, I AM also saying that Sweden essentially viewed Hitler as the good guy for invading Russia.

Has there ever been a design which magnetically limpets onto another vessel to hitch a lift across the atlantic? I imagined something that detaches autonomously when it nears the destination coast, and broadcasts its location by satellite phone, in encrypted format to allow collection.
