One of the biggest storylines from this past off-season was the Titans trading A.J. Brown to the Eagles. In exchange for Brown, the Eagles sent over the 18th overall pick and Tennessee used that to draft Treylon Burks out of Arkansas. Almost immediately after this trade completed, the Eagles extended A.J. Brown with a huge four-year deal worth up to 100 million dollars and 57 million guaranteed. Suffice to say, this trade has already been paying huge dividends for the Eagles offense. Brown is currently in sixth place in total yards, and he also has 6 touchdowns as well.
While I was going through the Eagles film over the past couple of weeks, what really stood out to me was A.J. Brown’s development since he came out of college. Based on that, I believe A.J. Brown is a Top 7 receiver, who we should consider in the Top 5 as well. In this video, I wanted to look at him closely and see why he’s so effective in the Eagles’ offense.

I’ve heard so many “when did AJ get this good” comments it’s sad most ppl just look at the box score for stats n have absolutely no idea what’s going on this man been a stud since a rookie

So great to see Brown healthy too (knocks on wood). I notice on plays like 3:38 he goes down very controlled and on plays like 0:26 he abandons the YAC attempt all together. Fewer unnecessary hits, fewer injuries.

Yeah I know, seriously. The open score is elite... and the YAC not so much lolol

@@SamuelGoldNFL I think Lockett's long been one of the most underrated receivers in the league. He gets down a lot to avoid hits, but dude's always open and catches everything lol

In the way that Srafford looks for Kupp? No. He doesn't. But DSmith get's the ball. He is second in catches on the team, it depends on what the defense gives them and how they adjust. Brown has had games where he had 3 catches or less, too. Brown has had 3 big games, Smith has had 2, and Goedert has had 2. The other game, the RB group had a ton of catches and YAC. It's a balance.

@@rolmodel12. 0 the first game and the games he caught 5 or less most came from screen passes hence why his yards are very low he’s not being utilized to his best ability which is going to hurt our offense in the long run

@@Milkdejean it's true he didn't have a catch in the first game, but a) that's one game, and b) he was targeted 4 times and had 1 drop. After a deep dive, though I've seen every game already, they do like to run a screen with him at least once a game (average). But, he's only had two games where his average depth of target (ADOT) was under 5 yards. So, I'm not sure the screen pass is the primary culprit. He does some undernearh stuff- or breaks off his route to sit in a zone. And he is Hurts' Hot read often, which makes sense since he has the best hands on the team. This could be a recency bias here, too. Against Pittsburgh, they ran three seperate screen (a bubble, an inside wheel, and a quick slant-type route with blockers releasing ahead) plays with him. And I agree, that IS prob getting, too cute. I love Smith, and I love to see him get his. And you're right, his yds/ca are down from last year. But, he's still on pace for career highs in everything and we have to remember: this is still just year 2. Good thing's to come, man. Stay patient and trust the team.

“Top five receiver”? Which two are placing him ahead of among Adams, Jefferson, Chase, Hill, Diggs, and Krupp? Fail.
