Tjat first video "Obey Your Parents" could have been really good if not for the propaganda. When Caleb's dad catches him leaving muddy footprints across the floor, he doesn't yell or scold. He points out that Caleb's mom had worked hard to clean and then directs Caleb in a small empathy lesson ("What do you think Mommy will feel when she sees the mess?") And instead of punishing Caleb, the dad helps Caleb clean up and ends with another gentle lesson on actions/consequences and the importance of rules. If only they had just left it at that!

@@AnikMonette About the generation today being undisciplined? Apparently, you have no idea what I mean. Do you remember Dr Spock? He advocated a method of disciplining children with no boundaries that has lead us to where we are today. Parents are being forced to raise their children by the rules of educators and the legal system is backing them up. Parents have the authority granted them by God to discipline their children and the world doesn't allow it. The Bible admonishes: “Fathers, do not be irritating your children, but go on bringing them up in the discipline and admonition of Jehovah.” (Ephesians 6:4) In the Bible, the word “discipline” can mean “upbringing, training, instruction.” Children need discipline; they thrive under clear-cut guidelines, boundaries, and limits. The Bible associates such discipline, or instruction, with love. (Proverbs 13:24) Therefore, “the rod of discipline” should never be abusive-emotionally or physically. (Proverbs 22:15; 29:15) Discipline that is rigid or harsh with no sense of love is an abuse of parental authority and can crush a child’s spirit. (Colossians 3:21) On the other hand, balanced discipline that is properly administered conveys to children that their parents love them and care about the kind of person they are becoming.

If we had ANY questions or doubts to our “orders”, we had to wait for the parents to be finished talking, then raise our hand and say “May I appeal?”. Only if we were allowed to, then we could ask about the orders. Otherwise we were being “haughty” and thinking better if their judgement.

It is always interesting. Sometimes we do get employees that work with us that are Jehova Witnesses. We are a pretty diverse group (Lots of Muslims, Jewish, Hindu, and of course a mix of Christian religions, Mostly Catholic). And I always like conversing religion, just because I am fascinated about the differences in beliefs. The only time that I was ever uncomfortable was when one of my co-workers talked about being a Jehova witness. Once she got to the end of the world shit and was speaking about it with a smile and dead eyes, I was looking for a way out.

Yeah it's freaky what some JW's just accept and repeat back to ppl, esp their kids. Still trying to get over hearing "If you don't want to be one of us then we will forget you ever even existed and you'll be nothing more than dust to us" at like, 6 or 7...

They always look very creepy at their little stands. I've never had one knock at least since Im an adult but those stands offering free bible courses in train stations creep me out.
@KaraOfTheSea Жыл бұрын
@Serenity Yea, I never had a JW knock at my door either (Which is strange, because I live by where Allegheny City use to be, so you would think I would get more). My dad told me back in the early 90's he had a few Jehova Witnesses walk to our back yard while he was building our deck. They started their speal. Then my dad steared the conversation to Jesus being a carpenter and they just ended up talking about the deck he was building. Totally forgot about trying to convert my dad. (My dad is agnostic, but went to Catholic school)

I don't know if you've said anything about Tony Morris in more recent vids, but from research I've done, there have been allegations of child abuse (not surprisingly), alcohol use, and some doctrinal beliefs that don't align with what the rest of the governing body believes. Haven't found anything else though. But the alleged alcoholism seems to be the biggest issue from what I've read.

I didn't grow up in a JW family, but I grew up in a very Christian family (I'm not sure which branch though). My parents were pretty good, but my extended family was very very religious. I had an aunt who would make her kids look her in the eyes and say "Yes mama, I will obey" when ever they did something wrong. My sisters and I always thought it was so weird and sad to see, and thanked God our parents weren't that bad.

As far as the dresses go, there are a lot of Christian groups that insist that women wear dresses. Except if, for example, she’s cleaning the house, or if her job requires her to wear slacks. Otherwise, they are required to wear dresses.

Omfg, thank you Owen! That gold book has HAUNTED me and I never even knew the name! My dad’s first wife and their kids were all JW’s (we weren’t). When one of my dad’s kids came to visit once when I was like less than 10, they gave me that book. All I remember is an image of a man holding a baby upside down by the ankle. I think that was probably all the convincing I needed that I didn’t believe in any of that 😂 I don’t think my parents ever let me really read it cus they did not want me around JW stuff (rightfully so) but I remember skimming through looking at the imagery in it and it was FUCKED up. Kinda wish I had the book still just so I could look back on how fucked up it was, but it is long gone, my parents probably threw it in the trash at some point.

I still remember when my grandmother (who was Lutheran) gave my brother and I each "My Book of Bible Stories" when we were little kids, maybe around 2-3 years old. She got them from the Jehovah's Witness's that regularly came by her house and I guess they convinced her it was the best was to introduce us to Christianity. She would read it to us until we were old enough to read and I remember it being part of my life before learning about the Lutheran church. One of the first things my brother did with his copy was draw peeing penises all over the inside cover, front and back. I have no idea why he did it but it's hilarious! 😂😂

Even holidays are aligned where 2 portions are sometimes read TOGETHER on a leap year, sometimes we have 12 months and sometimes 13. it would be like feb 1-28 feb I and 29-31 FEB II, which actully happens in feb called ADAR (AH DAHR)

I had "My book of Bible stories" for many years as a kid. I've always loved horror movies/games and that kind of thing so it was my favorite book. I told anyone who would listen how "heavy metal" this book was. I didn't have to go with my mom to the events much longer after that. And thankfully she was kicked out not long after that. Bunch of losers.

I'm not a JW obviously but I kind of really like the idea of families setting aside a specific time every week to spend time together. As long as it's not toxic or abusive where a narcissist makes everyone else feel terrible during that time. I had to stop eating dinner at the table because my narcissist dad would try to micromanage how much salt I used, how I ate, how I sat, etc. He would also make mean comments sometimes if I shared anything. He got mad at first that I would eat in the living room or in my room or whatever rather than being around him but he had to accept it. If he had acted like a normal father who focused more on conversation or being glad to spend time with his family I would have been happy to keep eating with him. That being said in a normal loving family it would be great to set aside time to spend together like that playing games, or reading something, or yes even praying together... but not in the JW way obviously

Ugh, not JW but recovered catholic and I remember being taught how to pray. Like kneeling on the side of your bed, hands together, trying to come up with something to say. I never understood it. It's just propaganda to make you think about God all the time. And depressing too. Cause all that praying amounted to nothing but guilt that I must not be a good catholic if my prayers weren't being answered.

i might just be really upset at this because i was raised jw, but the whole concept of forcing a religion on a child, who cannot grasp the concept of what a religion even is really fucking upsets me. jw’s think they mean well when they teach their kids these things but their kids have neither a say in it or the knowledge to have a say in it. hurts to see

When I was a kid, a Jehovah's Witness guy would come to our house every Sunday and my dad would study the Bible with him, the guy even gave me my own copy of "My Book of Bible Stories"! I think I still have it in storage somewhere, but count me as a freaky outlier because I thought the art was nice and not scary or grotesque at all. Maybe it's because we were "worldly" people so it didn't affect me as much?
