I've just bought one and opened the box....Good to the point review. I've carried a satphone for 15 years on our 4wd desert trips but am now motorcycling solo in the outback so this will supplement my sat nicely.

Yes I've had mine for years now. I go hunting alone in some pretty wild country. If bitten by a snake I'll be compression wrapping, sitting still and activating my KTI beacon. Feel 100% more comfortable heading out knowing I've got this in my kit. There is nothing complicated about this device at all. I recently decided to do the test and the function which took about 3 mins to see the green led flash worked as stated written on the device...i All remote travelers I agree should have one of these small portable devices.

Just bought this. This video has made me even gladder I got it. I’d be an idiot if I didn’t get this honestly. As much as I’d like to think I’m invincible Well described! Answered everything I was wondering

Thanks for the review mate but just a scenario if you did get bitten by a snake how long does the signal take to be processed and actually dispatch help. TIA
@ExpeditionAustralia3 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t take long for the signal to picked up by emergency services - less than an hour I’d say. But may take them a while to get to you depending on where you are.

@@ExpeditionAustralia Thanks for your response mate I've dicided to go with Zolio for the reason of texting anything including your level of emergency was important.
@jshepard1526 ай бұрын
They say most signals are detected in less than 5 minutes. Of course it must then be verified and dispatched to rescue services. So rescue time depends a lot on where you are.

What if you push the button because you have an emergency, but for some reason you can not stay put and have to move somewhere else. Does it keep updating them your location, or do you have to keep pushing the button again?
@ExpeditionAustralia8 ай бұрын
As far as I know it keeps transmitting your location but I’d suggest double checking with the manufacturer. The KTI unit I show here is no longer available to buy but existing units still work.

out of curiosity, once you use it, and help arrives.. what kind of fees are we looking at? do you pay for the recuse helicopter? or am I hopeful thinking medicare covers the cost for my stupidity ?
@woofbark44754 жыл бұрын
Is a good question. I've often wondered myself. I have a feeling extra insurance maybe necessary not to have a fee for the rescue to pay. But it's rather have a fee than be dead.

Lived in Laverton WA for 18 years. People perish. 10 Kms could be a long walk home. People have died in less distance.

This sounds like it works the same way as a boat epirb, buy once,sealed battery,they have your details when you register,epirbs are illegal to use on dry land so I did have one but sold it with the boat and took my details off it online.
@ExpeditionAustralia7 жыл бұрын
It's basically the same thing as a boat EPIRB just in a smaller package. Works the same way and monitored by AMSA which is the Australian Maritime Safety Authority
@christreadwell5 жыл бұрын
Not illegal to use on land. Our commercially used marine EPIRB can only be used for 5 years because of battery life so we replace them & re-register the old unit to land based vehicles as they still have plenty of battery life just not legal for commercial marine use but OK in a 4WD. Just test the battery regularly.

What happen if i don't registered the plb ? And then suddenly i have to use the plb for emergency situation
@ExpeditionAustralia4 жыл бұрын
It will still work if it isn't registered. The benefit of registering it is that the emergency services will be better prepared to help you if they know more about you in advance and also will be able to contact your emergency contacts and let them know.

Any chance of buying one of these for AUD$150 instead of 250-300 ?
@christreadwell6 жыл бұрын
Why? Is your life only worth half of everyone else's? Maybe you can get one without a battery
@jshepard1526 ай бұрын
Used ones are commonly sold for far less than new.
