I had a situation recently where i was stuck in a national park after a freak storm decimated the area. No forecast or warning. No nearby properties and no mobile phone. Had to hike about 10km to the top of the range to get a signal and only then all i could ring was 112. I wasnt in any danger, had plenty of food and water but it was 3 days before christmas and was concerned that everyone may go on holidays and id be stuck for some time. Rang 112 and explained my situation and the operator assured me i had done the right thing and 112 was for situations such as the one i found myself in. National parks cut there way into me, took them 5 hours with chainsaws and a front end loader. Never been so relieved to hear the "beep beep beep" of heavy machinery reversing. Even if i had a chainsaw, which i personally dont carry in national parks, i wouldn't have been able to get myself and my vehicle out. Next day brought myself a PLB.

Gday mate, Thats a wicked story and glad you came out ok. I knew about the 112 distress phone number. Ive never called it for an emergency situation. Im pretty sure with the 112 number, all you need is SOS Only in the display on your phone to make that call. Even if out of normal mobile range. Thanks again for that reply mate. It's great to hear from someone that has actually used that 112 number, and it works. Cheers Batesy.

Fantastic video again mate! I will definitely invest in a PLB. I go remote quite often alone and i'm silly not to have one of these already.

I’ve had My PLB for many Years. It has been around the World numerous times. I normally carry it in My Car and I Reregister it Every Two Years as per Requirement. The Peace of Mind which it give Me far and away exceeds its operating cost, which is nothing. Can’t recommend it Strongly Enough and I spent 30 Years in Search and Rescue, so I truly know its value.

Gday mate, The PLB sure do give you great safe peace of mind. Thats wicked feed back from you, for someone that has travelled the world with a PLB. They are so worth having. I bet with you being in Search and Rescue, that you would have seen a lot of cases where a PLB could have seen them rescued so much quicker. For the cost of them, they are so well worth carrying. Thanks for your reply mate. Cheers Batesy.

These are also great for outback 4WDing when you go prospecting or just exploring. I have an EPIRB mounted on my 4WD and a PLB for when I'm hiking. You can never be too safe.

Thats great you carry both safety devices. The smaller PLB is handy when you are away from your 4wd prospecting. You can never be safe mate, thats for sure. Thanks for your reply. Cheers Tim.

Great video and straight to the point. Do you carry a Sat phone? What do you think about them for hiking and camping in Victoria? Any PLB's you don't recommend or do? Thanks

Gday Anthony, Thanks mate for your reply. I don't carry a Sat Phone. I did have one of those Sat Sleeves a couple of years ago and had nothing but trouble with it. The PLB that I have is ResQLink Best none subscription unit I came across. Thanks again mate. Cheers Batesy.

Hi Tim. Another great info session. Just have a question for you. If I do any engine or exhaust upgrades to my 2018 Landcruiser 79 Series, will I need to upgrade the clutch? I am getting conflicting answers on this. Thanks Mate. Ross
@timbates4wdadventures5 жыл бұрын
Gday Ross, Thanks for your feed back mate. Fair chance you need to change your clutch. My mate had his 2018 79 series in for the same work you are talking about at DTA, and the clutch was changed on his rig. Having said that. Mine was inspected, but not changed when the recent upgrade work was done. Yours being the V8, might be different. If you would like a contact name and number for DTA in Dandenong. Let me know. They will tell you straight, and with the correct advice. Cheers Batesy.

@MrRomperxx5 жыл бұрын
Ross, if you carry or tow heavy loads definitely upgrade the clutch but otherwise save your money for something else, we run multiple 79's and the standard clutch is fine unless you're loaded.

Pete Davies . Thanks heaps Pete. I have just purchased a 25 caravan when loaded will get close to three ton so Based on your advice I think it will be safer in the long run to do the clutch . Thanks again Pete 👍🏻

Great video Tim! When you deploy the PLB who comes to help/rescue? You could be in two different emergency situations life threatening such as a heart attack or non life threatening such as you are camping remotely your battery has failed so your car won't start and your radio won't work. Would you use the PLB in either situation? Thanks
@timbates4wdadventures5 жыл бұрын
Gday Max, Thanks for your feed back mate. You would deploy the PLB in a heart attack situation for sure. With your flat battery situation. You would need to make the call yourself as to whether it is life threatening or not. Also good for that situation, that you carry a Sat Phone to call for help. Emergency Search & Rescue would be coming to your aid if you needed to activate your devise. Thanks again mate. Cheers Batesy.
