brilliant video! I suggest to have a cyclone separator before the filter. it will capture 80%-90% of the particles without reducing the pressure and will make the filter last much longer!

That's a great suggestion, thank you. I'll look into how they work and see if it can be incorporated in my one as the design develops.

Hey, awesome idea to make your own robot vacuum cleaner! I actually made one for a high school project a few years ago. I learned a lot from it. There's a video about it on my channel. However, there are a few things I would do differently now. First of all, I used a few cheap ultrasonic sensors for the navigation. They didn't perform very well... I think you really need to use some form of SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) if you want your robot to perform well. There are a bunch of different types of SLAM. Some require just a LiDAR, some also require some extra sensors for odometry and some can work with a camera (VSLAM). A lot of these SLAM algorithms are available as a ROS package so it shouldn't be too difficult to get it up and running on something like a Raspberry Pi and test it out. I also didn't use any brushes for my robot and I think it would have been better if I did. I just used a powerful blower fan. However, I'm not sure if the 3D printer blower fans that you showed in the video would be powerful enough, even if you're planning on using brushes. I think making a few different test setups for things like navigation and suction would be very useful. I would just use something like a cheap Arduino robot frame with the necessary sensors strapped on and try to navigate that around. If you have any questions feel free to contact me :). Maybe I can think along with you.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to share your experience and advice. 🙂 I'll be starting to work on my version as we head into winter (I'm part way through two other projects at the moment that need completing). I will certainly take another look into the options for SLAM. I have a robotic lawnmower which works on a principle of random motion and does manage to cover the entire area - however, indoors there are many more obstacles and rooms with only narrow doorways between them. This will probably make the random perimeter bouncing incredibly inefficient. I watched your Mk2 Video, I like that you used the available print bed size well. Thanks for offering to chip in with ideas and problem solving, I may well take you up on that when the time comes. 👍🏼

Great review lewis. Think I may have to buy myself one of these soon! Looking forward to the DIY Machines version :)

Thanks. It should save me time not having to vacuum, but instead I find myself watching it with awe and saving no time. 🤣

Ha! You called it a "hoover", I bet your sponsor didn't like that! Nice video, thanks!

😯 Ha, I hadn't thought about it but it probably wasn't ideal

I love this video, can you please teach us how to design it ourselves? I really need that for my final year project

An interesting review, but it seems to be missing information on some of the most important features, such as what knife attachments the device supports. Can the spinning sweeper thing be replaced with a small knife?

I guess it could be, but it would wreck havoc with your skirting boards, furniture, and toes. 🤔

@@DIYMachines, that makes sense. I'd just be worried that if you let one of these wander around unattended and defenseless it could be taken advantage of or seriously hurt by something along the lines of a BattleBot.

Does it automatically re-map the cleaning area if something (say, a footstool) has been moved? How about if a door to another room (boxroom, bathroom etc.) has been opened or closed?

Yes, I tested this by accident. The map it creates is constantly evolving and it deals with coffee tables moving and doors being left close (in my case I left one open which was not during my first mapping).

My 3D printed version of this will be following later in the year. This was my opportunity to get a head start by taking eufy's apart. 🛠
