I think what I like most about your channel is how thoughtful and methodical you are with your customer's valuable property. If I needed a repair done, I wouldn't call anyone else but you. 😎👍🏻

Cheers! The paranoia of breaking someone else's stuff is very real 😂 sometimes I still can't believe people trust me with their belongings. It's actually very flattering to be trusted with people's prized possessions

Love your videos, mate. Always a joy to watch. I'm not a shaper, but I find your videos fascinating to watch. One thing I did notice on your videos is that you can see the flickering of your lighting. Might be worth changing the shutter speeds based upon how many frames per second you are recoding and the frequency of the lighting. Then you won't see any flickering in your vids. Cheers. Yeeew.

Cheers Vincent! Yes, someone else suggested I play with the frame rates too to avoid that light flickering. Will give that s go on the next one for sure!

Hey looks great! Polish work is excellent smart to feather up the board there for a consistent finish Video quality is top as always Its never easy to remove a box thats for sure Yet you did such a good job you make it look easy My question is this Its my understanding we sand down to lamination fabric so the new repair lam we put down has something to strongly affix to. Here after putting in the box the overflow resin is squeegeed out over the previously sanded bottom showing fibers, thus messing up the nice fabric to fabric bond we worked to getting by sanding. Do you think this bond is worth fussing over? Or is it another area of ding repair that is a bit grey as to how important it is? Thanks for the great video and repair work

Gday Gabe, Solid question! With epoxy it would be an issue for sure but the bonus with poly laminating resin is it keeps its stickiness after curing to allow lamination over the top and because it's wiped out so hard in the clean up process I don't see it as an issue. If in doubt though, you could certainly mask up to the route before installing the box and then remove that tape before lamination

Can you tell me more about the expansion foam , where to buy ? What type is best ?
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings Жыл бұрын
Sure! So it's a 2 part expanding Polyurethane foam. The ideal density is 56kg (they use LB in the states so you'll have to do the conversion if you're there). 64kg can be good for major repairs like snaps and large delams but 56kg is pretty bang on to a PU blank. You can either source it from a local PU foam manufacturer or, if you struggle to find the right density contact your local taxidermist and ask for their source as they seem to all use 56kg. I'll do a video on it this week when I'm back in NZ as I do get a lot of questions about it

The futures gig doesn't need to be secured to the board from moving around..?
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings 2 жыл бұрын
The futures jig is pretty weighty so never had an issue with movement. I don't tape my fcs ones down either though because they are so small, the masking tape can actually get in the way of the routers base. Just slow and steady

great video, what brand of expanding foam did you use and what kind of polish do you recommend?
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings Жыл бұрын
I use a local supplier not a particular brand. He supplies taxidermists around NZ. I do have a video dedicated to these foams which cover most of the FAQs

Thanks for the video. Question. After putting in the expanding foam and sanding it flat. Did you lay a sheet of glass prior to using the router and jig. I think I heard you say you did, but didn’t see it in the video. If so, was it a 4 ounce sheet? Thanks
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings Жыл бұрын
Yup, that's the one. Foam, sand, lam, hot coat, route, install, lam, hot coat, finish sand. That's with poly. Usually with epoxy, if there isn't significant damage to the original glass around the box then I'll skip the first laminate as it adds so much extra time to the job with epoxy curing times.

have you ever tried routing it out in one go with the one-pass-install routerbit?
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely works a treat straight into foam. It's a little tougher and rougher om the cutting bit going through fibreglass so I prefer to take a few passes. Although it's never happened before, I can also imagine the bit grabbing my repairs fibreglass funny and lifting it too which would piss me off 😂

Mate, have you tried to colour the resin, to make it more white?
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings 2 жыл бұрын
You mean on this board or in general? This board is only white because the resin is clear and the foam shows through so tinting the resin in this boards case would look terrible, especially over black fin boxes.

Mr. Small Kine, im sure you are thinking the same as what im thinking; “If blowing a Blank is so white, why cant we do the same pouring part A & B together for repairs”?…………….. is it possible to add a pigment to the liquid foam?
@smallkinedings
@smallkinedings Жыл бұрын
100% 😂 have asked a few foam guys about this but yet to find a good answer. Best one I found was "if you order in the quantity that blank manufacturers order in, anything is possible!" Ha e tried tinting with limited success on White because of the base colour of parts A and B. Other, darker colours seem possible with limited results
