There's always people that preach the Bible for their own selfish and corrupt reasons. Even the atheist can see those prosperity gospel as fake and they don't even believe in our savior Jesus or God in general. The other teachings are much harder to find, but as Jesus has preached you can always tell someone by their fruits. So by reading the Gospels it lays the groundwork to heighten our spiritual awareness.

I believe it means..... leave everything that has become an idol in your life. An idol is anything that has become more important than God. So, anything that distracts you, occupies majority of your time-emotionally, physically, mentally, & spiritually.

I love past John’s podcast and really admire him but I do find this a very strange one. Why would you make a point on the basis of what somebody might possibly preach? Surely if you’re going to teach against a certain way of teaching you need to have that point of view clear first? I follow some preachers that other people might consider to be prosperity preachers, like Andrew Wommack, but his concept of prosperity is not this. I believe it’s true to say, it’s based on the fact that the Bible says God wants us to prosper and be in good health etc. Maybe there is a brand of prosperity preaching out there that I am not familiar with and P. John is referring to that. I find Pastor John is wonderful at bringing clarity but I find this one confusing.

Jules A I believe what he is saying is this, we are to be careful of what we hear. We should examine it and test it, use discernment if the teaching is sound. What he said is just an example on how some people can twist the Bible so that people can hear "what they want to hear".

Prosperity preachers abuse bible verses the same as all pastors who pick their favorite bible verses to make their own point. Piper Preaches Paul even though Paul does not teach what Jesus Teaches. Piper wants to make his point against someonelse..but excuses himself for doing the same thing. I can see the truth.
