Crazy what this man can picture out of that little piece of platinum and I'm over here like what's that little thing gonna ever do
@eavanfiontann35882 жыл бұрын
Watching what is clearly intense labour-required work and seeing it all fit together perfectly just absolutely exhibits how good Bobby is. I really enjoyed the choice of music in this video as well, it doesn't always have to be as calm but I enjoy it when it is.

I have a feeling you don't know what actual intense labor is....
@eavanfiontann35882 жыл бұрын
@@DanBuchberger Labor intensive. It requires a lot of small work by hand, doesn't neccesarily equate to hard physically demanding labor. Making a quilt by hand is labor intensive. Intricate carpentry is labor intensive. Even catering and food prep can be labor intensive. It's not exactly breaking your back while you do it, but handmade goods require work. A machine cannot form bezels or prongs or make pavé settings around unique pieces, most jewelry is fabricated and cast with stones in place, requiring minimal labor (though I guess CAD designers do their part, as well as people who make sure the casting and wax process goes right). You could, technically by calibrating individual parts and designing pieces in a computer like so, but Bobby doesn't do that. Again, don't confuse labor intensive with physically demanding work, they can often be the case together. No one expects rocks to come together on their own to form roads or construction that people can live in. Similarily, you cannot get hold of fabric and expect it to become a quilt, or a piece of wood into your grandfathers comfortable rocking chair. In this case, having pieces of platinum (which by itself is a difficult metal to manipulate) and expecting it to turn into a ring without labor by a skilled jeweler rather diminshes the effort and decades of experience that Bobby has. Let's just appreciate his craftsmanship and similarily, appreciate workers and craftspeople who labor for us by hand and body.
@DanBuchberger2 жыл бұрын
@@eavanfiontann3588 Have you considered the possibility that you're confusing it for laborious? I personally would argue the fact that calling Bobby's work labor would actually be doing him an injustice. It's very common for that word to be used when someone is 'doing alot of work but getting nothing done'. Thinking further on this topic, I think I do understand where you're coming from with saying this. You're using it as another term for "work". Example, "Bobby labored (worked) on this piece meticulously, for what seems like a long time to an untrained eye". And if you're going to use that definition then it would make sense to say 'labor intensive', but intense labor.... not a chance.

@@eavanfiontann3588 I also must add because reviewing my comment it may sound like I don't appreciate the fine arts. I have a great respect for Bobby, and all of the time that he has put in to mastering this craft. I think that the jewelry he makes is absolutely gorgeous. And as a jewelry collector myself, I forsure can appreciate the dedication he has for his work.

Amazing ring and love watching how it is done. I had a custom ring made for my now wife. Used a sapphire pear with a diamond halo and then the band has 4x diamonds and 4x sapphires on it on each side. Then the wedding band matches the band intermixing diamond and sapphires. It would be amazing to say the size of the stones in the band and halo for others to kind of get an idea of the sizes. I know on the one we did it used 2.5mm stones which turned out amazing. All thanks to videos as yours and a few others on here I was able to design it all myself.

Out of curiosity, do small mistakes happen but they're so small they're unnoticeable? how do you fix them? Great work, as always
@seflaneggleton76692 жыл бұрын
Hey :) I'm on my 7th week of being an apprentice jeweller and something I have learnt is in stuff like this everything needs to be absolutely pristine and perfect. Bobby is ridiculously tallented and has such an eye for detail. Some mistakes are fixable in jewellery, obviously but in things like this I believe every step has to be done just right for the final product to look as good as it does.
@Caro-cg8gt2 жыл бұрын
they can happen, but almost everything is precisely marked out in order to prevent mistakes. theres likely a lot of little scribe marks on the metal that arent explicitly shown in the video. and when youve been doing it as a career especially for as long as bobby has its rare to make mistakes on the level that would cause issues with the ring/need to be fixed. practice makes perfect :)

Greetings, does anyone know the step to get from the ring at 4:35 to the ring at 5:33 in the video, where space has been created to place the two angled pieces that he solders on from 5:32 to 5:43? It doesn't look like he shows that step. Is it filing? Rotary rool? Thank you for your time.

I'm not quite sure why, but I felt overwhelmed by the construction of that ring. It's actually like a miniature football stadium. All those angles and measurements have to be absolutely bang on or the jobs fu@#ed basically. I don't think I ever really considered the parallels between constructing a giant stadia and a Bobby White commission, but here I am. Considering it....you're pretty cool really aren't you 😁 Happy Thursday x
