**Channel Update!** This isn't a shorts channel haha, and likely never will be. Regular, long episodes will continue to be released every other Friday, as they have for the past year. This is just bonus content. :) That said... I'm going to have a Short for the next three alternating Fridays (between longer posts) to see if father algorithm takes a liking to that strategy. Ultimately, I'm in the camp of "good content wins out," so I put a lot of time into the shorts I'll be making, and if the impact is insignificant, I'll likely just retract back to only long form. I'd imagine a larger portion of subscribers to this channel are less interested in shorts, so this kind of content may end up reaching a different audience. If that's you, welcome! If you'd like to learn a bunch more, there are many rotary videos linked in the video description of this short. How they work in detail, why they ultimately failed, how hydrogen works with rotaries, it's all fascinating!

So it would be interesting if you could do a video on LiquidPiston engines. They are kind of like a reverse Wankel. Maybe even could discuss the origins of rotary engines that had individual piston placed around the crankshaft for old planes. Along those lines would be interesting to cover turbine engines as used in vehicles like the Abrahms tank or the Chrystler Turbine. Lastly a video from your perspective on Rotation Detonation Engines like the new Gambit engine DARPA has been working on recently.

I had a car with a rotary motor back in the 70s. It was terrific! But there are a few challenges. The first is power at the low end... Super charging would help. But the acceleration at high RPM was fabulous! The second problem is exhaust. As with most 2 cycle engines, it is nearly impossible to meet the exhaust standards. The last problem is engine life. The seals on the road are where very quickly so it's difficult to have an engine go more than 70,000 to 100,000 miles before re-build. But one terrific advantage is weight. Because of the light weight you don't require as much power, and the handling is magnificent. It's also an exceptionally smooth engine. Overall, I loved the engine.

It does guzzle fuel. However, it only requires a half quart of oil every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. Certain manufacturers have denied warranty service on piston engines that didn't consume at least a quart per 1,000 miles and it's a hell of a lot better than that.

Define efficient. A rotary is crap on fuel and not as reliable as a piston engine but the power potential per cc is pretty impressive, especially with forced induction. It's for guys who like rebuilding their engine twice a year lol

Yea, great engine, that's why it was discontinued. Trust me, they busted a gut trying to figure out how to fix that engine. After all, there were boatloads of money put into design, engineering and producing that boondoggle. Finally, they gave up and walked away.

These fanatical politicians want everyone in Europe to switch to full electric heating and transportation, and go to wind, solar, and water(no dams) as energy sources.

As a former owner of a mazda RX8, it would always be a nuisance to just back in/out of the driveway or drive short distances due risk of the engine “flooding”, you would have to drive or warm up the car before that simple task to avoid flooding

So, did you find the KZbin channel that gives a detailed explanation how rotary engines work?

Loved my RX8. But honestly, the engine wasn't the reason, it was the handling.

Aw geez, got a little layer separation there. I’d lighten up a little with the cooling fan, do slightly thinner layers, and maybe reduce the wall count seeing as it’s not a high-stress component.
