**Channel Update!** This isn't a shorts channel haha, and likely never will be. Regular, long episodes will continue to be released every other Friday, as they have for the past year. This is just bonus content. :) That said... I'm going to have a Short for the next three alternating Fridays (between longer posts) to see if father algorithm takes a liking to that strategy. Ultimately, I'm in the camp of "good content wins out," so I put a lot of time into the shorts I'll be making, and if the impact is insignificant, I'll likely just retract back to only long form. I'd imagine a larger portion of subscribers to this channel are less interested in shorts, so this kind of content may end up reaching a different audience. If that's you, welcome! If you'd like to learn a bunch more, there are many rotary videos linked in the video description of this short. How they work in detail, why they ultimately failed, how hydrogen works with rotaries, it's all fascinating!

I like "shorts" because I can watch them in between work meetings, when I have 5-7 minutes to kill, something I can't do with regular videos. FYI, they do not need to be in the "shorts" format, just shorter.

So it would be interesting if you could do a video on LiquidPiston engines. They are kind of like a reverse Wankel. Maybe even could discuss the origins of rotary engines that had individual piston placed around the crankshaft for old planes. Along those lines would be interesting to cover turbine engines as used in vehicles like the Abrahms tank or the Chrystler Turbine. Lastly a video from your perspective on Rotation Detonation Engines like the new Gambit engine DARPA has been working on recently.

The LED lights to show the fuels compression state is very useful for demonstration, that was a bit challenging for me to try and understand when I first learned regular combustion engines until I saw a cutaway gif with the same fading colors showing compression and (edited)combustion.(I originally said “detonation” but I was corrected. I had a car with a rotary motor back in the 70s. It was terrific! But there are a few challenges. The first is power at the low end... Super charging would help. But the acceleration at high RPM was fabulous! The second problem is exhaust. As with most 2 cycle engines, it is nearly impossible to meet the exhaust standards. The last problem is engine life. The seals on the road are where very quickly so it's difficult to have an engine go more than 70,000 to 100,000 miles before re-build. But one terrific advantage is weight. Because of the light weight you don't require as much power, and the handling is magnificent. It's also an exceptionally smooth engine. Overall, I loved the engine.

The original RX-7 was the ultimate high school guy’s car in the late 80s, early 90s. You could swoop up a used one back then for like $2500. Throw in an Alpine deck, amp and two 12” subs in a box and you were big pimping. Best part was having a 2 seater so you didn’t have to drive anyone around except your date.

Well for those doubters, some of us are old enough to have had a Mazda RX2 or RX4 that we'd pull the RPM regulator off of and damn if they won't do 9000 to 11000 RPM! Yes, ultimately you burn up the ceramic bearings but they last a hell of a lot longer than you'd imagine and boy would they go like a bat out of hell!

this type of engine burns lubrication same as 2 stroke dose (by its naturally requirement), but 2 stroke can solve it by using with a blower (doesn’t matter supercharge or turbo) and direct injection in cylinder much cleaner, no burning oil blue smoke, no hydrocarbon goes to the exhaust. but this rotary…..

It does guzzle fuel. However, it only requires a half quart of oil every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. Certain manufacturers have denied warranty service on piston engines that didn't consume at least a quart per 1,000 miles and it's a hell of a lot better than that.

Define efficient. A rotary is crap on fuel and not as reliable as a piston engine but the power potential per cc is pretty impressive, especially with forced induction. Efficiency is not always how far you can get on a gallon of fuel. The sound of a rotary is also the most efficient way of removing female underwear...
