How a Sheep Survived Two Years on a Rocky Beach | Amazing Rescue Story

Welcome to our channel, where we share amazing stories of animal rescue and welfare. In this video, we will tell you the incredible story of Fiona, a sheep who was stranded on a rocky beach for two years, and how she was finally rescued by a team of brave volunteers.
Fiona was first spotted by a local farmer in 2021, who noticed her on a cliff near the Isle of Mull in Scotland. He tried to reach her, but the terrain was too dangerous and steep. He contacted the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), who also attempted to rescue Fiona, but found it too risky and complex. They said that using a boat or a dinghy would be impossible, and that a helicopter would be too expensive and stressful for the sheep. A hovercraft company even offered to help, but the SSPCA declined, saying that they did not want to put anyone’s life in danger.
Fiona became known as Britain’s loneliest sheep, and a petition was launched to save her, which gathered over 55,000 signatures. Many people were concerned about her welfare, especially during the winter months, when she had to endure harsh weather conditions and limited food and water sources. However, Fiona proved to be a survivor, and managed to stay alive for two years on the beach, eating seaweed and grass.
In March 2023, a group of five farmers, led by sheep shearer Cammy Wilson, decided to take matters into their own hands and rescue Fiona. They used heavy equipment, such as ropes, harnesses, and pulleys, to haul Fiona up a steep slope to safety. They named her after a character from the animated film Shrek, who marries a princess called Fiona. The team contacted the SSPCA to monitor the rescue and check the sheep’s condition. Fiona was found to be healthy, apart from having a very thick and matted coat, which Cammy trimmed off. Fiona was then transported to her new home at Dalscone Farm animal park in Dumfries, where she will be able to enjoy a happy and comfortable life with other sheep.

Their rescue effect sounds to me a bit like a number 8 wire solution. People will only get this reference if they come from a certain country. But what an effect. At risk to personal safety to help a sheep. Well done.

I guess there is egg on all those “ Professionals”. Who said it was too dangerous or did not have the equipment. Just goes to show what can be done by MEN with the Guts and winch, rope feed bag and DETERMINATION can do. ❤❤❤

Exactly, well said! The ‘professionals’ achieved absolutely nothing in two years yet a tiny group of smart, hard working farmers and country people with no bank balances stuffed with public donations were not only able to plan and rescue Fiona in a tremendously short time, they also attended to her needs and secured a farm for her to live out her days well looked after and surrounded by her own. There is a special place in heaven for kind and selfless people like these men who at their own cost put themselves at risk to rescue this poor abandoned soul. Thank you to them all for what they did, good on them. The experts and animal charities should be embarrassed and ashamed for only showing up to get a photo call in the media and publicity to solicit more donations enabling them to enjoy a big fat Christmas staff party. I would happily donate to the farmers to have dram and thank them, well done lads! 👍🏻

Yes, we chubby females of the world are not celebrated but Fiona proved a little extra made her strong to live her best life in the circumstances she found herself in. It is not her weight that could have killed her but the weight of her coat that would have disabled her to move and therefore, starve. Yes, I see your point, one would expect the opposite. Just teasing you a bit, could not help myself. My Bad.
