Really enjoyed this tour. When I've visited Melbourne, I've wondered how light gets into those older houses. Now I know.

Unfortunately not every terrace house has a rear extension like this one, but this is a really effective way to bring light in.

As opposed to red, pink and yellow? Having a neutral base allows you to bring colour and personality in through artwork, plants, soft furnishings...

It looks gorgeous, OMG! I've always liked houses with huge windows and wide, well-lit rooms, with minimalist decorating styles. I've been thinking about selling my apartment to move to a place like this, mainly because I need a little more space. I recently bought a brand new Arco lamp from Barcelona Designs, a modern accent chair and set up a reading nook in my living room with a small bookcase, but I'd really like to have a small study. Thanks for sharing this tour!

Absolutely stunning. What was the material used for the kitchen island? This dark kitchen is exceptional.
@SimpleDwelling3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, the material for the kitchen island is from Maximum Porcelain Benchtops. While I'm not sure which one exactly, here are their product range; maximumaustralia.com/products Not an affiliate link or sponsored

can someone tell me why in australia i see horizontal blind (curtain) put on exterior side?
@SimpleDwelling3 жыл бұрын
While the reasons may vary, it can get hot in summer and protecting north and west facing windows is critical. So the horizontal blinds on the exterior help stop the sun hitting the glass in the first and transferring heat into the home. Couple that approach with double glazing and it's an effective way to reduce heat gain in summer.

I must say I'm rather confused. You've given the clients what they wanted, and then the house is for sale?
@SimpleDwelling3 жыл бұрын
I don't want to speak for the clients but quite often these architect-designed homes aren't 'forever' homes as life and circumstances changes. I'm sure it was a tough but highly personal decision.
@BaDazai2 жыл бұрын
The client probably did the renovations in order to up the market value of the house before they sell. Many will renovation their house before selling it. The housing market is extremely competitive with a lot of modern builds on the market, old houses will have to out match these if they're going to sell. Renovation will help this. Personally, I would have never bought the house before the renovations...
@aprilm95512 жыл бұрын
@@BaDazai Yes, this is very possible, and a good point you make. Another thought I've had since I posted my original comment is that renovation can be very stressful on a relationship -- many decisions to be made during the process, possibly creating conflict if there's disagreement. Perhaps the memories of conflict were too much. We'll never know the reason for the sale, but at least I'm not so puzzled as to why the house is being sold after the work was done.

still seems super dark to me

It's purposeful that the middle is darker, but rest assured that the living area is anything but super dark.
