Hey dude! Did you have a content creator code for Foundation? I am going to buy the game after watching you play it for a bit, and wanted to make sure you get recognition for that - I woulnd't have even heard about it otherwise
@bphillips907Күн бұрын
Absolutely love seeing you be new to a game. Foundations has so much hidden nuance and watching you peel back the layers and troubleshoot is so fun. A couple notes for you to consider as you go (some i've seen others have pointed out already) 1) The larger you make your monument buildings and sub buildings the better they tend to function. For example, the brewery being only one small room limits how many brewers you can assign and thus it's output. This works for tax offices, watch posts, and service buildings. You can improve your church's capacity just by adding another room to it. 2) There is an icon on walls to invert them so you can face the inside of the wall towards the inside of the town. Important for aesthetics. 3) The maintenances cost of buildings scales with workers, but isn't 1:1 with their output, that's based on the bottom of the info panels. 4) Along the lines of point 1, adding your beautification "raw" from the build menu will increase housing beauty, but won't contribute to any splendor. The bushes you placed in front of your church in episode 1 could have been built as part of the church itself and add to your clergy splendor. There is a trade off to building for your housing and building for your various factions splendor. 5) Physical distance to your monuments matter. E.g. the tax collector out by your manor is having a hard time getting to all the various houses in the city. You can right click on the gold at the top left and see the gold available to pick up. Colocating your tax office to where taxes are generated (or building multiple) will really improve the efficiency of your taxation. This also applies to distance from service and entertainment buildings. Sometimes many small local churches are more effective than large ones. 6) Villagers level up in their jobs the longer they perform them. Early game it makes sense to move people around, but there is an efficiency impact for doing this. Can't wait for you to work through all the other pieces of depth here, the game goes absurdly deep in lots of unexpected places. The monument building though is especially deep. Keep an eye on the building component icons to see what it impacts (capacity, maintenance, worker slots, splendor, etc).

One thing worth mentioning regarding the employment levels - they currently do nothing. A level 6 builder builds no better/faster/more efficiently than a level 1 builder does (same for any other profession). I got that right from the developer's Discord server when I asked about it. It's something that will probably come into play eventually, but for now, the employment level doesn't make any difference. 👍
@alexitosworld20 сағат бұрын
Nice tips indeed I was surpised to hear CPP mention "production per turn" as AFAIK that's not what that number means, it's just maintenence cost. The icon is a gold coin with surrounding arrows. If I'm wrong it would be a big discovery for me! :D Also CPP should check the hunting area, the boars need quite a lot of surrounding forest and with the farms and new housing so near I'm afraid they would have fleed. Also as per the watchtower, it's a bit annoyng so I prefer to use walls, but if you wanted to use it, remember you can make multiple versions of the monuments, so you can have multiple watchposts. That tavern looks awesome, an inspiration!

@@CityPlannerPlays another tip is be mindful of your storages and where they are located. Later on, you can also upgrade them with 2 extra storage plots, giving you 8 more resources to add onto one warehouse. Same with the granary. Make sure your market is near your warehouse/granary too because the market tenders visit your storage to pick up their wares The more land you buy also, the more expensive it gets. Much like in CS2, be mindful of that too!

European urbanism/history nerd here ! Your remark about the walls is great, because those were a HUGE part of their identity to our old medieval cities. A common pattern was a city building walls, filling them until it was overcrowded, people building houses outside, and then start again with a new wall. As a result they were the driving factor between the apparition of the old town, new town, and other neighborhoods. Centuries later, while the walls are gone they still influence the streets layout, because our main arterials were the roads going throught the gates.
@thomasdickson362217 сағат бұрын
You could simulate that by upgrading the current wall to heavy fortifications (stone) and then expanding the light fortifications around it. You'd protect main areas, but there would always be farms and cheaper homes outside the walls
@bramrots26818 сағат бұрын
Also, I think the manor should be placed inside the walls, like castles were in medieval times

Looks like you're looking at the upkeep cost when looking for productivity, it might not be accurate/the same. Also you can upgrade your storage with more goods if you get the storage improvements upgrade.

More #TIPS for @CityPlannerPlays : 1) The Icon you thought was Production is actually Maintenance Cost. 2) Each industry building has on site storage. The warehouses are more important as trade hubs. 3) If you notice products aren't being sold to your villagers, you might need to stop holding them in warehouses. 4) To keep commoners happy, try to make sure the housing needs are met before upgrading them. The serf houses can have beautification around them while waiting for a commoner resident to move in. Once you have a commoner area, you can start working towards Citizen housing which requires glass, and active guard patrols. (Quite demanding!) Overall, I found I had to slow way down in how I played, make sure there are little villages for each industry area, and make sure things aren't too spread out. The game doesn't tell you how far their range is, but villagers won't travel that far for certain items. Before start upgrading to Citizen there are A LOT of things that have to be prepared, so you will probably be staying with serfs and commoners for a long time.

To anyone having problems with light fortification: Towers like those in the manor, or bell towers in the church, count as light fortification too and don't need a watchpost. So you can build a small treasury, a chapel or tax house with a tower and that will help develop those pesky buildings.

26:54 when you adjusted the field sized you (understandably) followed the info from the farm if the size suits the number of workers. This is a rough estimate though, and most importantly doesn't take into account the walking the farmers have to do when harvesting, bringing the wheat back to the main building. So for the 3rd farm near the forest, they are likely not going to be able to clear the field in time, because it's so long and slender, with the farm at the far end of it as well essentially maximizing walk distance. The other two are (probably accidentally) an essentially perfect layout, with the farm building at the center, and could probably handle an even slightly larger field. Edit: Others have already pointed out that the maintenance cost (which you call "production") isn't a useful metric to compare input/output rates of buildings, but I thought I'd add it again to make sure. At like 32:00 you remove a worker from the common wares workshop, and it changes the maintenance from 20 to 18. It's just an expensive building, and actually produces rather slowly, and removing one worker will (of course) half the real production rate. Note also that you're employing serfs currently, and it's suited to citizens, so each worker has a productivity of 25%, and since you only have 1 of 2, it'll drop the production to essentially 1/8 of the buildings capacity.

From my experience, you will want to have a granary/warehouse close to the next step in the production chain. That way the market stall only has to travel to the granary next door instead of a granary near the wheat farm and that way you're making the storage workers take the long trips instead of the production building workers.
