Nice. I did something similar a few years back. Basically my coworker ended up with an smooth polished aluminum cylinder filled to the brim with coin money (think there were almost 30€ in there), the rule was no tool allowed and I made it strong enough so he had to smash it to the floor to open it. That’s pretty great. Last year my wife made me a cool Christmas stocking with airplane fabric, so I drew out a stocking design on some .025 3003 then rolled a huge crown in it then bead rolled the quilting, band and her initials in it. Welded an another crowned part on the back and ended up with an aluminum stocking. Good times.

My grandpa welded a box with a hundred dollar bill in it for me when I was 13, had to get the box apart without burning the money. He said it would be a good learning lesson. I’m now a machinist welder fabricator… 😂

at work for the annual Christmas party we have a white elephant gift exchange, so i tig welded up a steel cage around a cheap harbor freight angle grinder i had lying around. I put it in the box and welded a frame from 1 inch angle. Took way too long to build for a gag gift of sorts, but it was fun. (In case you dont understand the joke, in order to open the angle grinder, you would need another angle grinder so it became redundant)

You have to be careful, however; My son wanted the latest Death Assassin Shoot-em-up first person shooter game for his X-box, so that is what he got, except I carefully photoshopped a Frozen music DVD cover for the X-box DVD and shrink-wrapped it and it looked exactly like a Frozen DVD. He threw a fit when he unwrapped the christmas outer paper wrap, since I am the worst dad ever and threw it away, and he felt bad when I made him actually open the DVD and found out what it really was; He was all happy after that. Frozen!!? for a teenage boy, the HUMANITY!!! 🙂

Hey I'm wondering, I know aluminium can be pretty nasty for welders. When tig welding aluminium do you use respirator or use extraction or something like that? Or maybe TIG is so clean that its not really necessary? Merry Christmas and happy new year BTW
