Crane work is fine. Being a old ladder platform operator. It makes me think of angles / weight load like I use to do when working a fire. Doing tree work is a lot different. I also had to worry about getting water on the fire. Friction losses in hose / elevation etc. You have to worry about total load etc. Hope the crew / family and you have a nice Memorial Day weekend. Take care, Be safe and God Bless. PS I might take my old WW2 US Army rifle out of the safe. Fire a few rounds at the local target range. Guessing it will be only a couple cows and myself there.

One more, then I'll jet... I do enjoy, the tapestry of life, that comes out through these videos, of shared life, experiences, thoughts, ideas, experience... the richness, and complexity, along with the tedious, mundane, simplicity - because, it's never really, all one, or the other... like the grooves and bumps, in an old-timey, vinyl record... you've got to ride in the track, to get the progression, and the moving sound, that's what brings the inspiration, to tap your foot, sway with the way, and really get the feeling, for what's taking/taken, place - the tree-work and people (especially, the people) - it's all, part of the groove (and flying, running out of gas, etc). Keep on 'rock'n' it. Cheers-

When I saw the title, I was thinking someone had asked you to take down their tree in exchange for lumber or firewood! See ads for that sometimes, 120ft conifer wedged between my house and the neighbor's house, nearest vehicle access is 1/4 mile away, if someone takes it down for free they can have the firewood. Must dispose of brush as well, must be licensed, bonded, insured. They're living in fantasy land.

I’m trying to get a tree business up and running, but only have a utility trailer for hauling, so it’s from the ground up. It would be great to hear your thoughts on what steps to take in the process of starting a business, such as what insurance to get, acquiring an LLC, getting licensed, and when to make certain purchases of equipment, etc. Forever in debt to you for what you’ve taught me over the years of watching, things that may have saved my life and I didn’t even know it. *QUESTION* What _diameter_ and _fibres_ hitch cord vs climb line do you prefer? And does the fibre type influence what diameter you use, or just rope size? Example: I like a 10mm bee line on my 1/2" 16 strand but an 8mm ocean poly on my 1/2" 24 strand, even though it "supposed" to be used on a 7/16" line, I just run a different hitch. *However* sometimes I'll use my 10mm armor-prus on the 24 strand. All depends on the climb for me.

Hi August, This is Scott up in WA (probably in Guilty of Treeson's area) and I also do some tree work. Most of mine is on smaller ornamental trees using pruning ladders... I enjoy your videos, especially when you explain why you are making each cut. When I am working each cut is deliberate and each large cut is three (just like you do it) first is the bottom cut, second cut top & further out and finally clearing the stub outside of the collar. My goal is always the same = less work next year. Most of the trees I work on are staying where they are, and I am trying to fix problems, room around the bases and getting the trees to look a little better & keeping them healthy. I have just a few questions, what gear are you using to talk with the crew on the ground? And, if you wanted to learn how to do tree work requiring climbing where would you look for lessons or specific training? p.s. Please tell your little one that she was great in the "New climber and new client" video. I grew up with a mom who is a Landscape Architect so I learned pruning from her while growing up. :-) Thanks for the videos!!

I am seriously looking forward to help with pricing. I am constantly giving my work away I feel and it has even gone as far as the clients taking advantage of me. The gas prices where I live are 5 a gallon and dont get me started with diesel.... Should my business be ran at an hourly rate or should I stick with a full day rate and minimum rate. I sort of price out the job based off cleanup but I could sub that out to a friend with a grapple truck. Thank you so much for any advice & I'm really thinking of just doing the technical climbing. Machines are becoming very common in my area especially tracked lifts. It's a lot for a young climber I am in my 8th year climbing and 4th year running my own business. This is our slowest year ever. I've resorted to a sawmill & firewood gig that keeps me very busy.
