I work on container ships and have been to adani port in Mundra couple of times in 1lac dwt ships..i can confidently say it's one of the best ports i have called(i have been to atleast 100ports around the world). It's so massive and advanced competing with the likes of DP world. Not many know about it. Thanks for sharing it to non seafaring community.

Once you travel from bhuj airport to Mundra port and adani house inside it, you will understand how clean it is. Change till out side gate of mundra port and after entering into port gate was mind blowing. No coal dust will be there on roads, here in vizag coal dust is all around public roads and worst inside port roads...

The Indian shipping industry is basically working in Transshipment. Bulk cargo comes in large motherships through international shipping channels and unloads in ports capable of handling such huge motherships( draft 20+ meter) The ports close to India currently that have the capability to dock such ships are in Sri Lanka, the Middle East, or Singapore. Then small ships go and reload that cargo and unload it in various destinations in India. The business coming to India alone through such motherships is a multibillion-dollar industry & it plays a significant role in the development of any country , but we failed to capitalize on it for decades. The Sad fact is that ,currently not a single port including Mundra port in India can take such ships , The maximum dept of any Indian port is just 17 meter. You also mention about dredging, it’s too will add up to the cost of a port operator & a port operator must spend crores on dredging for maintaining shipping channels at mentioned dept. Another factor affecting the operation is the tidal difference, some ports have tidal differences close to 2-to-3-meter depths during low & high tides. This will also significantly affect the turnaround time for ships with drafts close to the port depth. The sad fact is that we in India had a potential mothership port sitting without developent for decades, Vizhijam in Kerala, goo.gl/maps/yh7krDWz7H5y6z5z7 It’s a natural port with 24 Meter depth 24x7 365 days , it have only 50 cm tidal difference , Cost spent on dredging will be negligible , Besides that it sits within 20km of International shipping route. Every KM aways from international shipping channel will cost you more for cargo. This port project was caught in red tape for decades and now only it got running, Adani ports are the one who is developing that too. What would have been the difference if Vizhijam port was developed decades ago. In the economic growth of China, the Shanghai port’s place is significant . Vizhijam have the potential for becoming India's Shangai port .

Thank you Ganesh. Adani Ports is our client since 2015, and I get to visit Mundra almost every year. Every time, I go to Mundra, I see the place becomes something different from last year - they have constantly expanded in the last 7-8 years ..and buy the latest and largest machines, like cranes, dredgers and Tugboats. Not only that they are very tech savvy in using software too. I am not fully aware of their strategies in stock market and increasing share price....but I am fully aware of their execution efficiency and speed of working. It's nothing like the other business groups of India. I hope we get more such business groups in India who are tech savvy and fast in execution. The country needs it, if we have to become a 5 trillion economy and need the infrastructure to meet that goal.

It is advantageous for the shipping company to come to the port of Colombo. It is advantageous for them to come to the port of Colombo. For direct travel, they come to India just like Shanghai port in China.

I have massive respect for all the stuff that you put together! But, here is my issue with the video. At 1:08 - You mentioned that the total profits improved from 1700 Cr to 5300 Cr. And the rest of the video kind of highlights how they achieved that greatness. That is not right. The profits in this business can't improve by 300% because of operational efficiencies (at the scale that they were already operating in 2014). The primary reason for growth in revenues/profit is not the reasons you mentioned - but the acquisitions they made. 1) In 2014: Adani Ports has acquired Dhamra Port in Odisha for 5,500 Crores. 2) In 2015: Got into a pact with Kerala govt to develop Vizhinjam Port for 7,525 Cr. 3) In 2018: Adani Ports has acquired Kattupalli Port in June 2018 for 1,950 Cr. 4) In 2020: Adani Ports has acquired 75% of Krishnapatnam Port approx at 13,000 Cr valuation. 5) In 2022: Adani Ports has acquired Gangavaram Port. This is their ability to get loans and build leverage:) And that is becoming a problem now.

I had taken the kids of my class to the Mundra port way back in 2014. Their PRO had shown the kids around this state-of-the-art port having many firsts to its name. Their power plant is also just a stones throw away from there. Their forward integration and backward integration of business makes them unbeatable in their lines of operation. Kudos TS for bringing this video for the benefit of knowledge of so many people. It's sad that Vizhingiam port is being mired in controversies and protests when it has the power to add heft to India's port infrastructure. It's a matter of good news that GoI is developing the transhipment port in A & N, which you had covered in one of your earlier videos.

I can say this especially for this video - As I myself work as a Marine Pilot for Mundra,Adani - Independently responsible for docking and undocking these giant ships. One correction here - Govt Ports too have deep draft vessels calling them - For example - Jnpt handles Vessels of similar size Upto 15.6m Draft round the year(366m Container Vessels).Likewise Paradip Port handles Cape sizers at 16+ m Draft. But yea the point that you are trying to make Govt vs Private Port Turnaround Time is absolutely True. And I am proud that I bring the vessels worth millions of $ and responsible for that ₹5300 Crore

Also mention how the Port contracts are assigned to the Group after 2014 and their financial strength, their style of investments (get loans fro nationalised bank, default the bank - which is the public money), get the govt support, get investment from SBI, LIC, default them on risk of public money. This adds both the side of the coin. A purposeful defaulter business won't sustain in long terms, the recent example is Patanjali in 2016 -17 which compete with HUL and no were in scene now due to similar ( not the style of business but by the govt support angle) reasons. Maybe the shares price bubble is created artificial with the support of govt, but those value falls, in other hand Tata is building a sustainable business which benefits the country and made pride on Indian in global market..
