Most Imperial Admirals, Moffs and Generals were selfish, ambitious and greedy. This is what Palpatine played off of by pitting all his minions ambitions against each other. It's why the Empire dissolved so quickly into Warlordism after Endor. I'd love to see some videos on the big Warlords like Kaine, Zsinj, the Teradocs, Delvardus and Harrsk

@UCsKI-OWqa8XXQwn2N1Azc-w well it worked because of division. Palpatine kept creating new ranks, positions and Honors for everyone to compete over to rise above their rivals. He kept them busy scheming against each other for his favor so they could supplant him that they seldom got to act against him personally. It wasn't efficient at all from a governing standpoint and actively hampered military and civil coordination against the Rebellion. It was designed to only function with Palpatine at its head FOR Palpatine. This led to the Imperial Civil War and later the Imperial Mutiny. Zaarin's Insurrection, The Grand Moff coup, Motti, Jerec and Jax all were results of the Sith way of running things.

@Aiko Hikari oh I didn't I listed him. I actually admire Zaarin greatly. He invented the TIE Avenger and Defender, captured the Emperor and nearly killed Vader, Thrawn and Palpatine multiple times without the Force and with very few assets.

Tarkin: "I do" Motti: "Very well. This station has become the heart of the Empire's power. The Imperial fleet could not not stop us. And all that power is at your command." Tarkin: "You are close to treason Motti." Motti: "Is it treason to point out that with the Death Star you could demand a position of authority second only to the Emperor?" Tarkin: "I would not care to have the Emperor as my enemy." Motti: "But command of the Death Star makes you his equal. You could share dominion of the galaxy" Tarkin: With you as my right hand?" Motti: "I am your loyal servant, Governor."

Compared to the cunning and tactical prowess high-ranking officials and top brass of Imperial Navy demonstrated in the Legends, First Order seems to be merely play-pretending war. They even got costumes (mostly) right.

Motti attains control of the DS, Vader is off doing an errand for Palpatine,few days go buy and he's having dinner, Motti remarks about a dif spice on his meal and asks what it is, the server says 'little something from our emperor', Motti collapses dead. We have to presume there were safeguards in place along many ppl serving Palpatine to remove anyone trying to take control of the DS. We should also presume Vader had a way to enter the DS covertly w secret codes that'd grant access to any of his shuttles or fighters, once on board Motti would be dead within a few hrs at most, Vader would def cut him down the saber. If Motti managed to get to a shuttle or TIE Vader would have it blown to pieces, maybe compromising a critical system by force alone and BOOM. Hitler and Rommel had ppl in place just in case.

What if the rebels stole the death star somehow? Let's say Palpatine had a secret code to assume control in case of a betrayal, but the rebels got the code, took control, and changed the code. Would they take out imperial military locations or just blow it up?

The Imperial Fleet would be mobilized to retake or destroy the Death Star then. As powerful as the Death Star is, it cannot fight off the entire fleet for long. The Empire likely know of more weaknesses than the one we all saw or things that can be a weakness. They have millions of proton torpedoes Luke's shot was 1-1,000,000. Even without the Force one would get through. They also have millions of boarding craft and endless troops. Wouldn't take long to either cut a hole in or take advantage of the many access points for ingress and egress. The fleet has the numbers and resources to do the job.

I'd imagine Palpatine reaching out to Matti and subjecting him to unimaginable horrors threw sith magic. Yet Palpie would not kill him but reminding him after each nightmare that he could and there would be no were in the galaxy he could hide to escape his hand. Palpatine would relish the torment and would want Matti to return the Death Star and in person grovel informant of everyone that he was sorry. Palpatine might even let him return to comment only so he can be an example to other imperial officers to one don't try to defy him but that it would be futile. In that end Matti would find out the hard way Vader wasn't just right about the force, he was dead right. Plus if Palatine didn't want to use his powers for some reason. Hows Matti going to stop the hundreds of train hard core assassins Palpatine personally traind to be the most deadliest in the galaxy both force and non-force sensitive. Either way Matti is so screwed.

if that really is the case, then the destruction of the first Death Star was part of Palpatine's plan, to purge possible conspirateurs and to lay bare any weaknesses of the Death Star, which then were supposed to be fixed on the second version.
