Rhaenyra messed up in multiple ways. First she assumed that oaths matter. The only house oaths mattered to was House Stark. To the other houses, oaths could be broken. Second, she married her insane uncle who solved his problems by murdering people. Third, she betrothed her two oldest children to her stepdaughters, thereby removing four potential alliance marriages. Aegon meanwhile was the oldest son so he had tradition behind him and he had two younger brothers and three children available for marriage. The only problems he had was an obsession with women (not uncommon) and a love of alcohol, which could be solved with a competent Hand and his brothers acting in his steed.
