So my daughter gave my wife and I 23andMe dna kit last Christmas and when I got my result, it did confirm that I am 100% Igbo but the surprise was that I have so far over 790 3rd to 6th cousins across the Americas and the Caribbean and a few in the UK. I am both bewildered as I wasn’t aware that my family members were victims of the worst human experience imaginable (Enslavement). Having digested the shock, I am excited about the opportunity to be the channel to bring my cousins who are willing home.

My question to you is don’t you know your own history? Why would you not be aware that you would most likely have family in America or the Caribbean? I mean the whole West coast of Africa was hit.

I’ve got indigenous Cuban in my ancestry, too. I was surprised…then I thought of my Cuban grandfather, who when I was a little girl, gave me a toy Indian boy and a pinto horse. I think he knew it and was telling me something!

The fact that he states that his great grandfather on his father side was african makes him african genetically cause the seed comes from the man and is carried down generations through the sons.

You my guy Jay, but why didn’t you use 23andMe given that it would have given him his actual ancestral Paternal lineage and his actual Maternal lineage along with the autosomal. It just doesn’t make any sense to me why you chose to go with Ancestry DNA. If the whole point was for him find out his actual ancestral lineage, you should have had his sample tested with a company that would give him his paternal line test results and his maternal line test results, which Ancestral DNA doesn’t give but 23andMe does. Again it doesn’t make sense to me unless you had him do an African Ancestry test also and those results are still pending.
