As a mostly self taught - hobbyist I've seen ai beeing used in other industries such as Banking or investment banking. This was mainly fueled by machine learning software suites such as IBM'S Watson heath care ecosystem and other competing software solutions in the healthcare sector.

AI has begun with epic. First is the “ deterioration index “. This one has 3 levels: green, yellow and red. It is based on several items it pulls from the chart whether it is lab results or vitals. The nurse has one hour to address the change in color. It’s supposed to alert the nurse to a change in condition. It has nothing to do with the nurse’s assessment. The other is the fall risk. The system automatically determines the patient risk and the nurse has to implement precautions based on this automated result. Again, the nurse’s assessment is not considered.

I hate how EHRs tells me to “possible side effect with existing meds taking” I can’t imagine how a robot will replace a neurologist ;) … 90% or meds have reported side effects with other meds …

Maybe AI can detect nurses who haven’t had their 2 federally madanted breaks on a 12 hour shift. Maybe that could be highlighted in red and an alert sent to the manager 🫠
