In the US Air Force, there are currently fewer than 100 active members of the special-operations security force known as DAGRE, or Deployed Aircraft Ground Response Element. These specially trained airmen work in tandem with teams from the Army Green Berets, Navy SEALs, and more to provide security for VIPs, conduct airfield surveys, and apprehend oppositional forces that pose a threat.
Insider observed a DAGRE training exercise at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico, to see how these air commandos are taught to keep hostile environments safe.

This is a massively misleading highlight piece, which doesn't discuss that there are Real "Air Commandos" in the format of PJs and CCTs, which have 18-24 MONTH long pipelines. Not, Basic training, plus USAF Security Forces MOS school typically held at Lackland AFB, similar to the Navy, Master at Arms, followed by 11 weeks of specialized DAGRE training. (Army MP school is held at Ft. Leonardwood). DAGRE is to USAF Security Forces as SWAT is to a police department, loosely speaking. This talk of doing low vis, VIP protection details, that's hype.

To say that DAGRE are "Air Commandos," is a misnomer, at the very least. USAF Security Forces protect airfields, missle silo fields, and overseas, our airbases. USAF SF is like a US Army MP, loosely speaking, BASICALLY its military Law Enforcement and Force Protection duties, combined. This entire posting is misleading, as DAGRE teams are the equivalent to a "SWAT" team, plus a few other details. There isn't any special operations pipeline, like, let's say the CCTs go through, or even further, PJs... those are 18-24 MONTH long pipelines, not 8 WEEKS basic plus another 11 specialty... there isn't any discussion of having to attend USAF Security Forces schooling, entire sections of pertinent information are omitted, for lack of a better term. The DAGRE team elements are intended for airstrip and airfield protection, moreso for Air STRIPs, meaning, something where it's likely been recce'd by and secured by USAF CCTs, typically along with an Army USASOC team composed of Rangers, and/or Special Forces to pull security (typically Army Rangers as the Ranger specialty is airfield seizures, just as much as they are utilized for other kinetic operations). **FACT CHECK YOUR POSTINGS, BUSINESS INSIDER**

DAGREs get some pretty solid training no doubt, but commandos is reserved for operational teams in SOF; DAGREs are no more than SWAT for AF Security Forces. They aren't operators and their job isn't doing anything direct action or even supporting it, their job is protecting an area. We had a DAGRE in our Airborne school class and this dude bragged about all the "cool guy stuff" they did when in reality the actual AFSOC TACPs and PJs were leagues ahead, even referring to DAGRE as "boners". Also at 7:01 it's cringe to say ya'll do "covert" training lmao. Nothing in your missionset involves ANY covert ops. When high-ranking people need PSDs they're going straight to JSOC or SF CTACs, not DAGREs.

Seeing a lot of misrepresented information in the video and in the comments section. These are Security Forces airmen, members of the largest careerfield in the entire Air Force, and members selected as DAGREs represent the top 1% of the careerfield, to become a DAGRE you first have to be at a base with a DAGRE mission, have top PT scores and go through the toughest training in the careerfield. After that while this is part if their mission their main mission is providing security for SOCOM assets in unfriendly environments. I have never heard anyone, not even my last supervisor who was a DAGRE refer to them as commandos, in the Air Force I have only heard people refer to PJs and rarely CCTs as commandos, PJs and CCTs are the Air Force's primary commitment to SOCOM and they go through the hardest special operations selection offered by the U.S. military.

It's such a shame to see so many (presumably) civilians trying to clown on the Air Force as a whole based off of one 9-minute video, sure DAGRE probably isn't what Insider Business makes them out to be (Special Forces Air Commandos), but it isn't fair to judge the entire branch based off of one unit. Imagine if you judged the entire United States Army based on how your poor 20-year-old platoon leader acts. You'd probably go away thinking that the Army was a bunch of 20-year-olds who have no idea what on earth they are doing, but that just simply isn't true. Actual AFSOC (PJ's, CCT's, TACP's etc.) are INFINITELY better than these guys, and I completely agree that DAGRE is not a unit worthy of the title of "Air Commando", but as I said previously, it's just outrageous to say that the entire branch does not have any form of capable SMU's. To sum up my point, DAGRE is not a component of AFSOC, and it isn't correct to portray them as such, but it also isn't fair to compare actual AFSOC units to these guys. (Edited some grammar mistakes)

No such thing as Air Force commandos what are they operational commitment zero. Their not in any of the rotation of such operation. In name maybe but nothing to it. Much to the liking of lioness operators. Fictions ideal that has no operational place. Same thing again who’s rotation are they in. Their not in any of the commands rotation of units. So why. By the name and tradition Royal Marine are true commandos “hit and evade.” These guy do anything near Royal Marines hardly. No such thing as Air Force commandos

DAGRE are not AFSOC. Insider Business incorrectly portrays them as such, and by portraying DAGRE in such a way, they make AFSOC look really bad. AFSOC actually is a lot closer to what YOU defined as "Commandos", utilizing guerilla warfare, etc. to complete tasks against opposing forces. However, I think what's really going on here is you don't understand what a "Commando" actually is, a commando is defined by Oxford Dictionary as "a soldier specially trained to carry out raids", nothing about "Hit and evade". An example of a unit that fits the definition offered by Oxford is the United States Army Rangers, and oftentimes, AFSOC attaches Pararescuemen, Combat Controllers, etc. to the US Army Rangers.

“Air Commando” is an Air Force term that goes back to the specialized airman in the sky and on the ground who supported commando mission back in WW2, so yes within the USAF it is a thing. Also yes DAGRE falls under AFSOC. AFSOC is a MAJCOM and has the same people in it as any other, plus it’s specialized career fields and duty positions.

@@tawan5753 The fact that you use the words "gen-z kids" in a statement is quite comical, and it shows how little you actually know about the world. I can tell you're either old and full of yourself or are not from the US based on the way you talk about "Gen-z", and how you try to mock "Gluten-free MREs and what not." Just because you're not born in a gunfight situation doesn't mean you aren't a perfectly capable and well-trained killer. Most Hamas fighters don't have any legitimate military training, and you can see this based on the strategies they employ (Taking hostages, etc.)
