a common myth.. ; truth is USA spends more % GDP on healthcare than nations with "free" healthcare. Whether you pay that through tax .. or you pay it to a business.. it matters not really. one is money going to the gov and then they spend on health for everyone ; the other is the same money or more just goes to business. USA doesn't save money by not having universal healthcare.. BUT the USA military is vastly stronger for a different reason.. very high GDP.. very high GDP per capita ... and also a solid commitment to realise that lots needs to be spent on weapons. The real reason you have no universal health system is lots and lots of very rich people are making lots of money in all aspects of the US private health industry.. from insurance hangers on.. mid men/women... its a whole giant industry.. massive investment ; going to universal health would cut all those people out of their lurcrative investment and jobs. Think about it like this ... if you privitised the Military and had Bill Gates and Musk run it at a profit would you expect it to cost less to maintain at the same strength? ... almost certainly not.

Much discussion about the legality or illegality of the strikes on the Houthi in Yemen. We dont hear much on the fact that both the Houthi and indeed Iran have seized merchant ships under force of arms, in both the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, their crews essentially being held hostage. Would that not be defined as piracy? If so would that not justify a military response?

It is a UN sanctioned action so it were perfectly fine. What we should have done were, when the Houthi attacked the first ship, EU and US should have said to Saudi Arabia that the agreement is off, and SA has free reign. Where do DW News find their "experts"? It is amazing how much nonsense they manage to spout out. Even thinking this will benefit the Houthi leaders and that the Houthi rebels are so very dangerous. They might be a problem when it comes to land combat, but they are extremely weak and close to useless against air strikes. Thinking diplomacy with the Houthi rebels can work, shows how extremely clueless an "expert" can be. The Western alliance can focus on the capabilities the Houthi rebels might have against ships and kill off their leaders and have zero needs to put troops on the ground in Yemen.

Because it was the British Empire who’s shaped that region over 100 years ago. It was the UK and US who toppled a democratic elected government in Iran in 1953 in a coup. The Brexiteers, after exiting the EU, made it a priority to increase business with Asia. It was Trump who supported the Saudis in their war against Yemen. Where are the Saudis today? Are we trying to protect those regimes and BRICS business interests while they will not contribute any protection. The countries most affected by Houthi piracy will be Saudi Arabia and Egypt and a couple maritime shipping dynasties and Chinese commerce. Bring back manufacturing and reduce the risk of doing business with regimes whose interest is to destroy the global order in favor to build their own. All roads lead to Moscow and Beijing.

The thing about conflict is that u have to be ready to reply on the same tone as the other part, whatever level they bring to u in first place. We have to be willing to call their cards and double the bet and say, ok, show me what u got. We get sucked into the situation they create, even though we desired not to have any interaction! with them at all.

Elisabeth Kendall is clearly no military expert the way she talks. She is clearly totally clueless about how extremely more capable the US and UK military are compared to the Saudis. Both when it comes to intelligence, military hardware and missiles. It will be close to impossible for the Houthi rebel leaders to hide well enough for a long period to avoid getting killed if the US and UK decide to go after them. It will also be totally impossible for the Houthis to hide and use larger weapons without them getting very quickly destroyed. The reality is also that many of the air strikes the Saudis did, was very broad with very few accurate strikes, often killing and injuring civilians. Elisabeth Kendall also clearly do not understand that the Western alliance would experience much more and worse backfire for not attacking the Houthi rebels than the attacks they have done now and might do in the future. The Western alliance and specially the US could not afford to let the Houthi rebel continue to attack them and civilian ships in the Red Sea without making the Houthi rebels pay for it and try to deter them from more attacks.
