Akrapovic spends the most on R&D which is why they are the leading brand. When Nicky Hayden was racing in AMA his Honda was equipped with Akrapovic but the decals said Jardine because Jardine paid the team to advertise their exhaust. Same thing goes when Rossi was riding the Honda RC211 the exhaust said Polini when in fact it was Akrapovic. Polini again paid the team money to promote their brand, but Polini only makes exhaust for mopeds and scooters.

As a Principal Aerospace Engineer with a large American defense contractor's Aero company known for, among other things, the two American frontline F planes I have a pretty good understanding of metallurgy. Assuming money is not a consideration, I don't understand why Akropovic doesn't manufacturer their GP exhausts using Inconel rather than Ti. They are roughly equivalent in weight given the thickness of both necessary to equal tensile strengths and inconel retains heat better than Ti, which is generally a positive on IC exhaust systems. If I am not wrong, I believe both F1 and NASCAR use iconel for their exhaust systems.

because the other one is tuned to make more power?
@pathosdivision10 ай бұрын
Lots of factors contribute to overall speed, not just engine design. Even if both bikes used the exact same v4 engine, the chassis can make a huge difference in how that power is applied to the ground. Look at Yamaha from this year, it was well known that they made their engine much more powerful but they had major issues with rear grip making all that extra power useless. Moto2 is another example with all the teams using spec engines from Triumph, but are able to run a couple of different chassis designs leading to differences in performance.
