Does anyone else remember when Fortnine was having trouble getting motorcycles to review because they talked about bikes objectively and certain people didn't like that? I'm not saying that anything changed, but it is nice to see them getting real recognition. It also probably helps that they're doing more motorcycle education content rather than motorcycle reviews, lol
@rezkyputra52393 ай бұрын
Yup, they rarely do reviews anymore, and the reviews they're doing are for older, vintage bikes which no one would complain about. Last one they did was the R1300 GS and they do it because the have burned the bridge from the 1250 review anyway I guess most of the review contents are handled by RevZilla, while educations are handled by F9, since they're the same company, as not to eat each other's jar of cookies

Reviews are all but pointless because 99% of reviewers inject their own opinion into the review. What feels good to Yammie Noob is going to be very different to what Ryan likes, which will be different to what Spite(Spites Corner) likes and so forth. You want a review? Simply go demo a bike.

I know as a rookie rider, riding across rain groves would scare the crap out of me. The bike seemed to want to drive itself. I would stiffen up and fight the wiggle, which made it worse or at least more pronounced. Later I realized if I just relaxed and allow it to float across it, it was no big deal.

This princeple is more universal than some might think. Sports pilots and glider pilots know the term PIO - Pilot Induced Oscilations. If you stiffen your steering, you may be increasing the momentary disturbances caused by the elements that would otherwise be mitigated by the vehicle's self-stabilizing properties.

I used to go down a quiet hill on the way home from work. It was just the right slope to go at a constant and safe speed with just engine breaking. This allowed me to let go of the handle bars and stand up on the bike, steering with my knees. That negative feedback "weave" made that possible.

It's good to see one of those rare correct videos about the physics behind riding! Even this channel has made some mistakes about this stuff in the past, because it's not simple at all. Another way to look at this is that the rake of the wheel countersteers the bars to bring the bike back upright, but it's the same concept.
@3GingerCats3 ай бұрын
the system critical force comes from the castor... where the wheel touches the road in relation to the pivot point. I built sled dog rigs, with 3 wheels, and having the forks at the same angle as the bike they came off meant they would steer wherever they wanted. having it at a 40 to 45degree angle (dependant on the donor pushbike) made it so the rig would just go straight unless the dogs pulled it around a corner (very few can have the dogs on a lead and have them pull the rig around behind them without the front wheel flopping around. and it was very noticeable to the point where people always comment on how mine self steer. the same applies to bikes, but the angles are different and require it to fight itself and stand the bike up again... this is why raising or lowering the back of the bike or lifting and dropping the forks in the tree make such a huge difference to steering! 1 degree is a massive change that can be felt by EVERYONE no matter how much experience they have!
@klock_tax31502 ай бұрын
Could’ve just explained that by saying that the contact patch of a motorcycle tire is somewhat behind the axis of steering, and since the tires are rounded, whenever the bike starts to tip, the outer edges of the tire have a shorter circumference which makes the bike steer in that direction correcting the center mass back above the tires and preceding towards the other direction where this tipping cycle will continue

Interesting in that I ride an Electric Unicycle (EUC). With only one wheel there is no castor as such, if you throw your weight forward you speed up, throw it back and you brake. But none-the-less as with a bike you can only balance when you are moving. You can throw your weight on the foot plate deliberately and tilt the wheel the way you want to go but at speed you weave. It is considered bad form to ride in what you would perceive as a straight line (that is called zombie fashion), but to constantly weave gently from side to side. Wobbles (Tank Slappers on a bike), can also happen on an EUC, there is much discussion in the community on how best to avoid them, stop them should they occur, we cant tighten the damper on the headstock unfortunately. Anyway I thought you should know 🙂 Currently considering a ZR-9R, terrific value for an awesome bike.

I felt that constant weave left and right for the first time a few years ago on a vulcan 800 riding at low speed on a high gear and thought maybe there was something wrong with the bike but came to the conclusion it was part of the way the bike's trying to balance itself against the forces of gravity and stuff like that and that I couldn't feel it at high speeds because of higher forces pushing me forward if you will. Now I can feel it almost on any bike but mostly at low speeds. I never thought someone would make a video about it and who else in the entire world would do it other than Ryan?
