Cold drink cans to Vande Bharat trains -- the only thing common between these two is perhaps aluminium. It is one of the most important metals used in manufacturing sector to keep products durable, yet light weight. Saurav Kumar of ET Online travels to Vedanta's aluminium manufacturing facility in Odisha's Jharsuguda to walk us through the process of making aluminium.

Odisha government earns ₹40000-₹50000 crore EVERY YEAR just from mining. Further, these processing Industries support some cities too. Odisha was the poorest state at the time of Independence. Now it is far ahead of Bihar and UP and richer than a few other states. Without mining it would still be the poorest as it would have been difficult to break the cycle of cyclones without upfront investment.

Incorrect. Mines and minerals are in the Union list of our Constitution. Odisha doesn't earn it. Odisha only gets royalty of 8.3% from Central Government for mines and minerals. Odisha gets around 3500 crores to 4000 crores per year. Central government earns all the money.

However, when it comes to high end products, like making a Smartphone (iphone), EV car(Tesla), electronic chip(Intel) which are market leaders worldwide, we fall far, far behind.... Its not high end product, it's called electronics. Also these electronics are produced in China, USA, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan mostly. Everyone is not capable to build them. India have taken great initiative to manufacture semiconductors.
