I will never forget the evening when I attended her concert at the New Orleans World's Fair. I was dressed in my Navy summer jumpers for the concert, my sister had gotten my ticket for me on the thid row, center stage. Laura saw me sitting there and took a moment from her preformance to recognize those of us in the Armed Forces. She asked me to stand which I did. Then she did something I will always remember most of all. She saluted me and the ampatheather broke out in applause. Thank you Laura

Laura may be shedding tears over the loss of her father? This concert is from 1982 or 83. Her husband didn't pass away until 1996. She gave up her career for more than two years to care for him. He had cancer. We can all learn something about dedication to others from Laura. Laura left us in 2004. The choir in Heaven has immensely improved since her arrival, I am sure. We look forward to hearing you again Darlin'!

Back in the day the people who controlled music weren't afraid of REAL emotions, didn't resent people who expressed them, and didn't immediately set out to mock, scorn, and sandbag anyone who dared venture upon sincerity. Imagine that. Snarky, cynical, sarcastic controllers of what would be accepted in the social setting, wouldn't come until the early 1990's. Even still, those of us old enough to vividly recall the way we were, can chuckle to ourselves in tears of defiance and memories that can never be taken away.

In 1994, not long after the release of Over My Heart, Larry Kruteck, Branigan's husband (m. 1978), was diagnosed with colon cancer. Branigan refused to accept the medical prognosis, and left the music industry to devote her attention to him. Branigan put Kruteck on herbal treatments, eventually nursing him full-time. Kruteck survived for another two and a half years and died on June 15, 1996 in New York.

I made a mistake when I watched this video--it laid me open, once again, to such pain and loneliness because I lost my wife to cancer only 94 days ago. I know Ms. Branigan lost her husband before she, too, left us suddenly. But at least she's with him once again. I have prayed that God would take me, too, but it hasn't happened yet. So now I pray that my wife waits for me and saves me a place beside her when it's my turn for the Lord to take me home. So much pain.
