The Hirsch Weis company made the white stag its symbol because of the English translations of the owners' names. That symbol has endured for over a century, eventually making its way onto the iconic neon sign that introduces visitors to Old Town.

I have been looking for those canvas bags for at least ten years, I cannot find them anywhere, they used to be very common, we used them on our trucks from the 80 to almost the 90's. You would fill your water in it and hang it in the shade, the water would sweat out of the bag causing the water to cool to the perfect temperature to drink, drinking ice water during a very hot day is bad for you, these bags were perfect. Sometimes your boss would drop you off on some random person property where you would work all day, that was your water for the day. I think they were called Trucker Bags

One would think that with the vast KGW image archive, and the resources available from the historical society, this story could have included actual pictures of the sign as it appeared through the decades
