This is an incredible BTS video, really inspiring for a lot of filmmakers. As someone who dreamed about making a film utilizing virtual production. I am inspired to learn more Unreal engine. Especially with the release of 5.3! 🔥🔥

currently at the stage of learing stuff needed to get my films off the ground ...i love seeing bts that highlight the hardships and the learning curve needed to just get ur idea and vision out there.. cause indie film makers dont just have $$ to throw around, sometimes you have to learn an entire new skill set.

thank you yes absolutely! Luckily the knowledge is all out just a search away. Best of luck with your learning and future projects!

Not sure why, maybe it's lack of sleep lately, but this made me emotional?? The fact that you were able to get the funding, get the crew, AND you built your bridge while crossing is just crazy to me. I'm happy the stars aligned for you and you and the crew should take pride in all your collective hard work!!

Thank you so much for the kind words! It hasn’t been easy probly the most difficult film I’ve tried to make but seeing comments like yours really makes me think it’ll all be worth it.

Wow! Absolutely cannot understate the importance of your background in directing, however, the willingness to push the boundaries on the tech side (much of it you learned yourself / on the fly) is the cherry on top.

Would you still do green screen in UE over led wall? If so can you explain why? I’m looking at doing GS for my film over led wall.
@beyondcinema Жыл бұрын
Yeah I would but it depends on your project. GS allows more freedom to change things after, while LED you're locked into that VFX. In many cases, productions ended up doing rotoscope on their ICVFX shots. GS is less expensive to do, faster to do, and not as much pressure to "get it right". If you have reflective material on your character though, the LED wall will look better. So you gotta weigh your options according to your resources what is needed for shots.

And the markers do you need them still in UE? Or did you have a second camera since UE5 can only do one camera at a time. Not sure how to remove them in UE
@beyondcinema Жыл бұрын
@@sybexstudio do you mean the markers we put up on the GS? We did that as backup tracking just in case our actual camera tracking didn't work. It actually saved me in the end. We did the composition inside After Effects so there it was easy to just mask out and do the regular key.
@sybexstudio Жыл бұрын
Ah I thought you recorded everything live there like in OBS to synch everything on set. How did you isolate background and actor with movement to later comp in post?
@beyondcinema Жыл бұрын
@@sybexstudio so we have the live footage on GS, which is then keyed to remove all the green so that all we have is the character. Then that image is comped with the background from UE. To get this background plate, I imported the camera tracking data into UE and attached it to my virtual camera in the virtual environment, framing it up to the location it's suppose to be for the shot. Then I rendered that video sequence out using sequencer so I had just a background video. Some more work was done in After Effects to add some atmosphereic elements, to really blend the 2 pieces. Feel free to reach out if you need a better explanation!

You mention always use haze. Doesn’t that affect how your key comes out?

We didn’t have any issues, but yeah I guess it’s something to watch out for.
