I wouldn't say he was really overlooked, other than maybe by the Bears (LOL Trubiski), he was the 2nd QB taken overall that year, again LOL Bears. But you are right, coaching absolutely played a big part in how well he has done, Bears probably would have killed his career too.
@dfp_012 ай бұрын
If he hadn't been taken by the Chiefs, the Saints would've grabbed him with the 11th pick and he would've been able to learn behind Drew Brees and Sean Payton, in my opinion a QB of comparable caliber to Andy Reid and a coach of comparable caliber to Alex Smith. The Saints brought in Alvin Kamara in that same draft class, like the Chiefs did by adding Kareem Hunt, but the rest of their supporting cast, at least on offense, wasn't as good. There were plenty of other systems that he probably could've thrived in as well, and one of the perks of not being taken in the top 3-5 is players are a lot less likely to wind up in one of the environments that ruins them.
@Paula-mv8im2 ай бұрын

Everything in his high school college and pro careers exudes a “don’t rush the process” mentality. Between not rushing straight to the mlb, not starting his first year in college football and not starting right away in the nfl. His career has slow cooked the right way and is most likely a big reason that he’s matured into the polished professional and humble superstar he is today in the league.

Your Chicago Bears cannot catch a break when it comes to QB’s. Then you have Greenbay, over the last 20 years they have had just a handful of starters, the Bears have had what seems like more than a dozen, they all fizzle.
@davidm.214110 күн бұрын
You have a chance with CW. He just needs the right coaches and O-line, and time to develop chemistry with them with his receivers. Remember, Mahomes walked onto a team with a HOF head coach, a unique OC, HOF TE, HOF wide receiver, and HOF kicker, not to mention one of the best RBs in the NFL, elite special teams, and a talented WR room (Sammy Watkins, DeMarcus Robinson, Byron Pringle). He also had an entire season behind Alex Smith, which gave him two training camps and an entire season in-between to establish chemistry with his receivers and tight ends. It would be interesting to see what would have happened if Mahomes had been drafted by the Bears, Panthers, or Lions, and thrown into playing immediately in his rookie season. Anyway, good luck to you and your team, and let’s hope Caleb can get the support he needs.

We knew how good he was at Tech. Too bad there wasn't much concentration putting as good of a defense around him. People forget back then Tech had Mayfield briefly before he transferred to Oklahoma and then there was Mahomes we got shortly after when he came in the next year. Admittedly, I (and most) didn't know Mahomes would be this good, but we knew he had a cannon for an arm, could adequately scramble, and had good field vision. The time he spent being mentored by Alex Smith, is probably what helped him the most to actually get ready for on the field action as a pro.

Patrick Mahome's and the Chiefs have a greater chance of winning this next superbowl because not only is defense stronger this year, prob. best in the league, but they also have worked really hard on getting the offense strong even in the midst of losing half of their good players from injuries. Secondly, Patrick works hard and comes up with unique plays. I've never seen anything like it. I also think there is a very strong connection between Patrick and Travis. They have a winning formula that is one of a kind I also think Patrick Mahomes has God given natural athletic abilities. He also has a glow of light in his eyes that is so kind and gentle. I don't think the Chiefs are winning the Superbowl this year. I realize they are undefeated that but that is a combination of a little luck and running into teams that haven't had truly good offensive performances against them. That won't be the case through the playoffs this year. The biggest concern is the offense's huge injury issues and the lack of a real play maker outside of Kelcie whose been hot and cold this year, mostly cold. Maybe they can muster some additional help with trades, but as of right now, if Mahomes keeps throwing these wild interceptions at the clip he is, its gonna cost them at the most important time. I hope they do win, I'd love to see the 3 peat but I just don't think they have the right set of circumstances to do it this year.

This is an awesome sharing and summary of the beginnings of Patrick Mahomes greatness. I hope that everyone can see the parallels or lack of parallels between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady. Patrick was good or excellent in basketball, baseball and football. Brady was NOT GOOD in Anything!! Listen to Tom Brady’s Hall of Fame speech. “ To be great you just need consistency, integrity.You do not need to be special. Compare Tom Brady’s upbringing to Patrick Mahomes . upbringing. Tom was not groomed from his Father in sports. He was the 199 draft pick.He had NO ability at all. Why do people keep saying Mahomes is the next goat. He cannot be the next GOAT. Tom had NOTHING before he was drafted. Mahomes was raised, polished and groomed in three sports. That is how he brings great abilities to the Chiefs. Tom came from the bottom of the pile. No one wanted him. Patrick Mahomes is an awesome QB. Tom Brady is Tom Brady and he has said he NEVER wanted to be the GOAT, just the best Tom Brady he could be. So the NFL world should really let that next GOAT thing go because you cannot compare. Tom Brady who k no none wanted. Patrick Mahomes who was groomed to be excellent in three different sports. Come on. Let’s get honest. But what do I know, I am just a retired school teacher. I am Gloria Winters 😊❤

Mahomes certainly has the talent to 3 peat, but as we all know, football is a team sport. Ive been a Chiefs fan since they came into the league and ive seen some bad teams put together by KC, but the O-line this year, is even worse than the one we had when we played Tampa Bay and lost in the Superbowl. Getting a first round bye is essential this year, giving us the ability to rest our starters, and hope someone beats Buffalo in the first round. But when and if we get the chance to play them, the entire team will have to put together their best efforts to beat them, because Josh Allen is no joke, and theyre putting up points like a machine. But the do give up points, so we'll see how it goes. Whoever makes it to the Superbowl this year will have their hands full, because Detroit, the Eagles, and the Vikings are ready to go, and ready to leave blood on the tracks as they fight for Dreams of their own this year.
