Darling Liz excellent Topic u chose, definitely every newbie succulents grower wants to have more succulents babies from their favorite ones. But as I'm learning to grow I find watering as a task tell us how should we people who stay in hot &humid areas should minimize the task of appropiately watering succulents and their babies . As for some time it's difficult to have control on onself we water one and then all succulents in one go?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын
When it comes to succulents, one can't water all in one go. I only water the one's that needs watering. Putting them in groups according to their dormancy and watering needs also helps.

Do you dry them first (new haul) before you plant it in the intermediate mix? What can I get as a seasol here in the US? I am really following everything that you’re teaching coz your succulents are amazingly beautiful😘😘😘 love 😍 you😘
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK4 жыл бұрын
No I don't dry them at all. In fact I actually get the roots wet first in seasol to remove old soil, then plant them in the soil. For the soil wetter. Look for seaweed(kelp) solution with compost and humic acid.

@GrowingSucculentswithLizK4 жыл бұрын
They're not available at plant nurseries. I just googled up DECOMPOSED/"CRUSHED" granite for driveways in Sydney and they are available in a lot of places. They are available at landscaping supplies or gravel and sand suppliers and quarries. The only draw back is you have to bring a trailer and buy half a cubic meter which will not last very long if you have a lot of succulents or you can share it with your friends. Hope this helps.

@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean Rosa as it can be very confusing. There are thousands of species of succulents and they all have different growing requirements. It's important to know exactly which succulent(name) you have so it can be given the right soil mix. But as a general guide, I use my Propagation soil mix for a lot of baby succulents or leaf propagation. Video link below. Propagation Soil Mix | GSWLizK - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h167dp2Ae7p6jKs

Hi Liz, if you dip your roots in seasol water and plant straight away will this rot the succulents? I'm worried cos I did what you said but from other ppl videos say not too water after repotting for a few days to a week? Is this the same thing? I didn't water the soil after I soak roots in seasol for awhile.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK4 жыл бұрын
I usually leave it for a week and then check for soil dampness coz depending on the weather; sometimes I don't even water for 2 weeks until I feel that the pot is light. If the moisture is in the bottom of the pot, this encourages the roots to go down and gets established much quicker.
@Lisa-zi8dj4 жыл бұрын

Hi Liz, I'm have a couple of problems, when I recieve my purchased sucs from online, they come bare rooted and dry. When I potted them up I was dipping them in kelp/water mixture, ( I don't have the soil wetter but am ordering it today). They started showing signs of being over watered and lost all bottom leaves due to moisture, (I did not water them). I have taken them back out and have them air drying. What am I doing wrong? And if I just pot them up with dry roots I end up losing several bottom leaves from drying up even if I water. Any help on what I should be doing? And what is it you use to prepare them for the winter to strengthen them. Its getting cold here and I've gotta start worrying about the frost. Thanks for all your great videos and information!! Your my go to for succulent care!!
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK2 жыл бұрын
You don't need to use soil wetter. Kelp is good enough to hydrate the dry roots. If they're wrinkly, then best to soak them indoors where it's warm. If you bought Echeveria in Autumn, you could pot them straight away in moist soil or dry soil but dunk the bottom half of the pot in some kelp water for a couple of seconds to encourage the roots to grow and reach for the wet soil. Just be aware that a lot of them go dormant at this time. Best time to buy them is on the last month of winter, so they have time to settle in their new environment and start growing roots when the temperature warms up.
@sonnmorangello68372 жыл бұрын

Hi Liz, when I buy succulents from stores and want to repot again, do I need to airdry them first for like a week, then apply it with seasol? then immediately repot it or let the seasol dry as well? kinda confused. Thanks for the help
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the soil that they are in and the condition of the plant. Not necessary to air dry in some cases but I'm afraid you'll just have to wait for my upcoming videos as this will take a long time to explain. Working on some ATM. Cheers

awesome. cant’ wait Liz. Also If I can suggest, I guess all viewers here would love if you can give as like a step by step chart on how-to, in all sorts of cases etc. (eg If you’re buying succs from store >> repot if soil is not good >> airdry >> seasol >> repot)

HI Liz! Good information as always. Question: When you put the material under your intermediate soil mix when moving your babies, it looks like a type of mulch to me. Am I wrong? Also, I hear you mention scoria in another video. What exactly is that, some type of lava rock? Thanks for sharing! You're so sweet :)

Hi Susan, They were just cast off large pieces of bark/mulch from sieving the potting mix or compost mix. Scoria is a type of volcanic rock. Cheers

Winter temperature can go down up to -11°Celcius or 12°Fahrenheit. Summer temperature can go as high as 45°Celcius or 113°Fahrenheit. To make them compact is to acclimatize them first and grow them outdoors.

There are different reasons why I grow my succulents in a certain way. Intermediate soil mix is what I use to grow some succulents faster so it can produce offsets quicker so I can take cuttings to propagated or grow.

What is high nitrogen soil?😊
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK4 жыл бұрын
The source of nitrogen in soil is due to decomposition of organic matter. The more nitrogen a succulent gets, the faster they grow but the greener they become.
@nicoladavies21503 жыл бұрын
What is soil wetter?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын
Soil wetting agents reduce the effects of repellence by lowering the surface tension of the water which improves infiltration. It increases the wettability of hard to wet soils, allowing deeper penetration of water into the root zone and makes it quicker for plants to take in moisture and nutrients.
@panicmosem59694 жыл бұрын
I thought that fertilizer high in nitrogen was not recommended for succulents??
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK4 жыл бұрын
That is such a generalized idea since there are so many different "GENUS" of succulents. Grown in different parts of the world and condition, each has different growing and fertilizer requirements.
@panicmosem59694 жыл бұрын
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK I thought that also!! I thought it was funny that something used for growth would be discouraged, unless it had something to do with over-fertilization and burned the plants because of the high nitrogen content. I try using under a 5 on the N-P-K rating.
