Love this episode. I just recently quit working for someone else and because self employed by marrying my two passions; music and teaching. I’ve never been happier or more fulfilled. Caroline, you are wise beyond your years.

THANK YOU FOR THIS CAROLINE!!!! I learn a lot from your KZbin vids & this pod, but more often than that you make me feel validated in things I'm feeling. I loved the Bombas commercial as well XD I remember seeing it and being so surprised and tickled. Honestly, it made the ad break so much better in the way it felt like an extension of the video itself. I'm aware it's more work, but it made the entire video more wholey entertaining and creative.

Glad to know I’m not the only one who endures to a fault - I stayed in a marriage that wasn’t healthy for too long, and currently trying to transition out of my career, which ironically enough is interior design. 😅 I have worked in the commercial sector for almost a decade and I endured it because of the hope that if I got enough experience and moved up in the company, maybe then I would have more creative freedom on projects and I would enjoy it. Those moments of enjoyment are so far and few in between. I spend maybe 10% on my time getting to be creative and the rest is filled with tedious tasks. It’s just not enough to fulfill me. Client work is hard, and I’m glad you were able to find something that works for you! As for me, my plan is to move to Italy, open up a pottery studio and sell my wares. Wish me luck!

thank you for this!! i just moved back to philly from nyc after trying to pursue theater as well, only to find that i think my priorities have shifted and i just couldn't hustle like that anymore. i want peace, calm, stability, benefits, all the things i never EVER thought mattered to me until i turned 31 lol. i am back to square one, having no earthly clue what it is i'm here to do, but trying to just focus on loving myself and figuring out what i need before jumping into another profession. thank you for talking so candidly about all of these things!

Thanks Caroline! Yet again, you've met me EXACTLY where I am. I am currently building a business that brings together 2 things I love, am very good at, and are seemingly unrelated. Your insights, based on both your experiences and your honest and thoughtful analysis, are so balanced and encouraging. Thanks again!

Thank you thank you thank you for talking about all of this so nuanced! Could relate so much to how you talked about your love for crafting. I’m very inspired to give more of my creativity out into the world after listening to this.

Loved this episode! I’m in a place where I started a small biz/ creative job when I started having kids since I couldn’t afford childcare. It was all based on my “passion”. It’s evolved for sure over the years and lately I’ve been wanting to do the opposite and just quit and go to work for a large corp and do something completely different. I love how you reminded us of realistic expectations around work and job life regardless of how interested we are in it. It’s given me loads to think about as I continue evolving. And I ADORED the bombas ad. So did my 9 and 6 year old. 🤣🤣🤣

Hey Caroline! Great Hater Hour. I actually also really liked the segment from Justin on the pod a few weeks ago. I get the.... sense.... that he works for a US government agency.. just a hunch... and as someone who studied Political Science with the intention of doing some good in the world, his segment was sobering and insightful. I'm struggling to find a job that I feel actually has an impact on a community I would care about, at an organization that would offer a competitive salary and all the benefits a reasonable person needs.. Idk it's hard.. I was sold on the dream career for such a long time and now I'm not convinced it exists.. LONG STORY SHORT I love the work talk on the pod. I listen to the episodes religiously on Thursdays on my mind-numbing morning commute to my even more mind-numbing corporate job. The pod gives me something to look forward to for those commutes. Thank you for doing what you do!

Lets not forget world traveler with Bourdain's talents. One of his great talents; and the fact that he was one of the first to do it. exhaustive as it was for poor Anthony.

Very helpful podcast! Would love to see a similar one from Jess on her recent transition and how she strategically networked to get there.

love this idea! I think Jess has soooo much expertise to share about how she climbed ranks in her corporate career, as well as making a transition to bring more creative fulfillment into her love of content creation. sounds like a topic for her next solo ep!!!

Girl, this is something I LOVE discussing. Though you only briefly mention it in jest, 33:20 my PASSION is to bring it up. ❤ No matter the country, everyone pays for health insurance/healthcare. Unless it’s donated by the healthcare giver. We Either pay: *indirectly through higher taxes where we don’t see this money leave our bank account. But because it’s indirect, it looks free. We get no say in the cost or what it pays for. This scenario creates higher prices that no one could ever hope to afford, slower work, poorer quality, less individual charity in communities too! Or *in an open market where providers/healthcare givers compete for our business. This creates lower prices and better quality, because insurance companies/health care givers now have to compete for our business. Do we need government intervention? Absolutely. Protect us from crooks, thieves, and killers, and let the free market thrive with cheaper prices, better quality, more innovation, and more charity from businesses and individuals alike.

Yep! I started a passion project a couple of years ago and it is absolutely tedious work. I still love it, but there is just no getting around the work!!! Edit to add: Wow. I do use two disparate skills and I knew this about myself, but never heard anyone mention it before.

I could never... To have a perpetual ever moving target and constantly thinking over the next step or planning plan B, C and D. Caroline, you are a bomb! You are young and full of energy! I am so happy that you exist and I am in awe of how is this even possible. But to me you are a super-human. Unachievable

When you speak about your energy of “being a hater” and not wanting to show that all the time, I totally get it. But I also want you to know that I am a fellow hater, and you make me feel seen. I LOVE when you are a hater.

I agree with you that most trust fund babies dont achieve personal greatness bc of unwillingness to endure the grind. Though Julia Louis-Dreyfus is one of the few who did make that break… i was surprised to learn that she is an heiress. In general if you grow up in an average family, it is plenty already. And even from poor, lower class, it’s possible too

Caroline, I needed this episode so thank you from the bottom of my heart 💜 It is absolutely true what you said about trust fund babies because I am one and it is true that we refuse to go through the hard times. Let's just say though, that your insights have sort of lit a fire under my privileged ass.
