How and why do I have so many hamster wheels?

Thanks Clare, yes it is fascinating to see how hamster care standards have changed over the lat 5 years. 8 inches was the recommended size for syrian wheels in a lot of places, just goes to show you can do your research and still get it wrong.

I wish I had this many! I still need to order one. I got my Marble on the 2nd of this month, and she is having to have a temporary 30cm flying saucer as I have no wheel for her. I had to throw Snuggles' away as it was covered in wee and was wooden and the bottom rubbed on the base. But not to worry! I'll be ordering one (28cm+ of course) as soon as possible.

Took me 5 years to 'collect' all these. Hope you manage to get Marble an upright wheel soon, at least you know what size to get (more than I did back in 2018 🤦) but I guess that just shows you how hamster care evolves over time.

I’m amazed by your wheel collection! I was told by pets at home that the flying saucer was great for a hamster’s back, which is a lie when it comes to Syrian hams 😩 I’ve got two Trixie wheels and I’m not too bothered by the noise since the hams have their own room 🤠

Oh wow, re the flying saucer advice. Ok for in runs and freeroam but not permanently as long as the right size of course. I've been put off them because of Luna. I honestly think the Trixie wheels aren't too bad if you are on a budget (although nowadays they seem a lot more expensive than what I paid for mine) especially if you can get to a pet shop in person and choose the quietest one.

@@CosmicHamsters yeah I quite like the Trixie because it has good grip for their lil paws and it’s easy to clean! But maybe one day I’ll consider starting a wheel collection 😅

I have the Trixie 28cm ferris wheel for my Syrian. He's only 11 weeks old so is still small but he loves it. I would like to start free roaming him though so want to get another for that
