I am getting my BS in chemistry and exploring different job options. I don't know if you have a video on this already but I would love to know what got you into it. Thanks.

My chemistry teacher in high school inspired me to become a chemistry teacher. I would recommend you observe some chemistry classes at your local high school. That will give you some insight if this career is for you. Best of luck!

Great video and a great strategy! I teach chem as well, and was wondering how this past year went for you with flipping your chem classes. I would like to start flipping, but probably start small. Were there areas of content that worked better than others?

Hi Wes! Thanks so much for watching! I felt like I did a much better job communicating expectations to my students last year. The students were far more compliant with taking notes and engaging with the video content appropriately. I found that my students benefited from all types of content being taught in this manner, but by far content that taught a skill such as dimensional analysis, students has the most success. I believe this was because I could devote all of my class time to problem solving and practice on whiteboards. I hope that helps! :)

Do you give the students your guided notes for the videos? Or do you find it more effective for them to take their own notes?

Hello! I think both ways work well. But I do have my students take their own notes.

What do you do if a student hasn't watched the video? Do they watch it in class instead of the in-class activity?
@msrazzchemclass Жыл бұрын
Exactly. They are not prepared to participate in the class activity, so the natural consequence would be that they have to complete the work. I hope that makes sense.
