Hello, nice video ! I wonder about something When we create an instrumental without vocals, should we take as a reference track a song with vocals or only the instrumental of the reference track if we can find it ? (because it's harder to find) Does it make a difference ? (Especially for spectrum comparison) Thank you
@Unders
@Unders 2 жыл бұрын
Depends. Sometimes you will have instruments in that vocal space. Strings and brass often live here. So it can still be great context. But it does require some decision making and thought. Never just blindly follow the curves.

This is a great video. I’m glad you addressed how a different key signature reference could cause some sub problems. Here’s my question: where does this fit in, or not, with Master Assistant? Doesn’t Ozone’s Reference mode for Master Assistant include an EQ Match as it processes the over al match?
@Unders
@Unders 2 жыл бұрын
As far as I’m aware the assistant doesn’t use match EQ. I honestly can’t say I use the assistant all that often though either.
@DylanRotich
@DylanRotich Жыл бұрын
The assistant uses the normal EQ to try and get your audio closer to a specific curve. The Match EQ uses like 8000 bands and is more precise where as the Master assistant will make rounder softer changes in eq. Also keep in mind the Match EQ has presets including Brown Noise and Pink Noise

This is probably the most powerful plugin tool I’ve ever tested. Do you know if there is a “dynamic” eq match? So that we could split the result into 4 bands and adjust each one separately like a multi-band compressor?

It gets a unfairly bad reputation. It’s a crazy powerful tool and amazing value for money.

Good vid, just don’t understand at what part of the process this is used? Assuming it’s mastering, does this happen before or after maximisation and all that
@Unders
@Unders 3 жыл бұрын
Generally limiting / Maximisation will always be at the end (barring any dither etc) At what point though is entirely up to you and what works for your track. Theres no hard an bast rule. I just scheduled a video for monday though where I use this as the second to last stage on a master to just do some tiny more detailed than you would EQ correction. Might be a good video to look out for.

Question. The track you are working with it is a mix track(not a mastered one) or you apply this "match eq" on an mastered track only as a final touch for it ? Also, the reference track is, i supose , a mastered track ?
@Unders
@Unders 3 жыл бұрын
The mix is unmastered. Match EQ would come before final limiting. Adjusting a finished limited track would be difficult,

Are you gain matching your track to the master before capturing as I tend to use the pre-defined reference templates and notice my capture is a lot quieter to the reference curve (I am worried this means the eq is having to work harder to match)? Thanks
@Unders
@Unders 3 жыл бұрын
For the match EQ gain match isn't critical as il tend to capture just the most prominent part of the track, however with tonal balance its important.

Maybe I'm missing something, but there's no option that I can see to copy/paste the match EQ curve into the Equaliser module. It would be so much easier if this could be done - I could save the Match EQ curve as an Equaliser preset and call it up for other projects, specifically album tracks in which the Match EQ is uniform.
@Unders
@Unders 4 ай бұрын
No you can not copy the match curve into the regular EQ. I can see why that might be useful in some cases. But it’s not feasible in OZONE yet with how match works.

There's no rules so do whats needed. However use some caution and common sense. If you are having to cut away where the mach has a boost for example. Ease off on the match instead.
