I got it wrong. And when Mercier explained the answer it became obviously to me. Now I don't know if I was distracted too much or I would have got it wrong anyways. Probably I would have got it wrong because I would be thinking, that this is just a primitiv example for reasoning and nothing you have to think deeply about.

Furthermore, this guy seems oblivious to the history and philosophy of science: has he never heard of "paradigm shifts"? What would he make of P. K. Feyereband's - well-argued! - thesis that scientific shifts are not based on reason, but the extra-rational?
