Interesting stuff. I've been knocked out quite a few times in my life. I had a liver transplant in 1997 & am doing fine from it. Had other minor things throughout my life since then to need anesthesia.

Fun scary horrible fact: My anesthesia hadn't fully set in when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I woke up to them putting shots in my tongue and gum line and I went under again just as they made the first incision. I remember being terrified and them telling me to just relax before fading out.

When I got my tonsils out I didn’t even try to stay awake I just let it happen that’s probably because I was out in the first 3 seconds

Hi there, I just have a quick question. You said that sedatives are used for general anesthesia; would you be able to explain to me how this works, because from my knowledge, a sedative only relaxes you and does not make you unconscious. Is the sedative just given in a higher dose to induce unconsciousness? Thank you.

+Chicken Wings. I have had it done before at the dentist, I think they do a sedative first for people like me who have extreme anxiety, just to calm them down. then after they're calmed I think they give the regular medicine to make them unconcious

Hannah Arocha yep. Usually it's midazolam when you're in preop to get you feeling relaxed. Then it's profonol, which knocks you out, but they also use it as a sedative in smaller doses. I've had small doses of it for brief procedures, and boy you just feel numb. You're awake and aware but you give 0 shits. Someone could of chopped my legs off and I wouldn't of cared.

I go in for surgery this morning, have to be at the hospital by 9:30 my ride is picking me up at 7:30 to give time to get there due to morning rush hour...it is now 2:29AM (alarm set for 6:30am) 10/27/20 and my anxiety is so high I can't relax enough to even get tired...the OR scares the crap out of me...I have a full blown panic attack once they put the mask on my face...it's so bad it triggers charlie horses with a level 10 pain scale

general anesthesia takes affect very quick, they usually tell you to count down from 10, 99% of people barley get to 8 and they're waking up In recovery
