There are many devices for home use, and I like the independence they help provide. They cannot replace the work of a wise and experienced neurofeedback clinician, but can be part of a comprehensive program. I think people should be free to try many home devices without a doctor, although some people will be too fragile for this.

Can ketones boost bdnf?
@TheHumanCondition4 ай бұрын
anything that increases mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation will raise BDNF-so yes, if the ketones are burned. One may need antioxidants and less insulin to make this happen.

Great, just the kind of info i was looking for. So, we are talking about EM radiation from the brain? Well, that would be photons. EM waves are photons, not something else. I am maybe thinking the brain is a zillion little antennas, and nerve impulsed and travel to the brain and terminate at an antenna. The brain is actually a radio station, and the spirit, awareness, reads these patterns of EM radiation. As you should know, awareness cannot be created from atoms because atoms don't have that property, and no way to establish it. Likewise, the brain must be able to receive some kind of input arising from intentions which are also a property of the spirit, and cannot arise from atoms because atoms are mechanical units that only operate according to the laws of physics+chemistry. Now, you may not know the properties of the spirit, but i do. And the 2 primary properties are awareness (for reading) and intent (for writing). And somehow these properties interface with nervous systems. And what i want from a scientist, or someone like you, is to put forth facts or theories on how this interface may be functioning. Maybe the spirit is a synaptic modulator. A condition is that the spirit is zero dimensional and outside of spacetime, so i don't think it is capable of generating physical manifestations. But it must be somehow capable of being affected by them, such as EM radiation, or as a matter of experiencing some aspect of electricity or related synaptic functions. This is where biochemistry meets spirituality, and it would be great if some science or plausible theories could be discovered along these lines. The spirit is performing I/O for the nervous system. But how? A photon is an electric and magnetic field bound together kind of like a baseball. Its spin/frequency/energy makes it appear as a wave. But it is a particle. At least, comprised of the elementary taus (magnetic field particles) and muons (electric field particles). Photons have inertial mass, but no resting mass.

Good synthesis. Based on your interests, I think you may be interested in the coherence part of EEG brainwaves. This is the part of brainwaves where we map how one area is in synch or out of synch with other areas near or further away. This is not just frequency or amplitude, and it involves how synched regions are as they process inputs and outputs and resting states. Great comments

@@TheHumanConditionI know it sounds a little nutty, but I am a chemist and aeronautics engineer. What I say derives from the highest meditation state, generally termed Cessation. It is at the root of the practice of Buddhist monks+nuns and similar attainments by other religions/spiritualities such as Christian mysticism, Islamic Sufi, Advaita/Hinduism, etc. If we can define consciousness as a bidirectional field of the nervous system wherein sensory input is radiated, and if we can define a spirit as a zero dimensional 'center' that reads consciousness with awareness and writes to it with intent, then Cessation is the disconnect of the spirit from consciousness. And it is a foundational experience in the various mystical aspects of religions. It could also be called death, because the entire material universe vanishes including spacetime. Only emptiness remains, and 'self', being, presence, am here, sentience, spirit, however you want to label it. It's not phoney baloney because I developed an ability to do this in a repeatable manner in 2015 after a big effort to not miss a single breath for 12-16 hours, and finally succeeding. Concentration locks into place so that not even sleep or death disturbs it. So, it becomes easy to see what forms the basis of religions, because one sees that what we really are is not subject to death, and does not arise from atoms. But it is what is doing the reading/writing to the nervous system. And, it is seen that it is intentions connected with body+mind that bind the spirit to body+mind (like magnets). Again, we see the asceticism rooted in the mystical sects of religions. And their ultimate goal: mastery of their power of intent/concentration, avoidance of sensual indulgence, and virtue, because conscience/sense ability are also an aspect of the spirit. And, because I retain images of the experience, having no body or mind, I think the visual data of our memories used in facial/bodily recognition, and the related signal of recognition, may also be non biological. I don't think biochemistry is storing all data and performing all processes used in recognition because recognition is instant and a mechanical process could not be fast enough to perform image matching over an entire lifetime in a split second. Intent initiates thought, muscular movement or other actions in a dream. Note that awareness never gets ill, or diseased, never increases or decreases over a lifetime, it has no dimensions, it can't be located in the body, it is not affected by transplanting all organs, amputations, removing even up to 3/4 of the brain, and is not subject to intoxication. Ie, if we get drunk, the part that sees the drunk state has perfect clarity. It is not itself drunk. Thank you for your reply. I will be listening to your recommendation. I somehow wanted to add what I know, as a scientist, and as a decades long breathing meditation practitioner. I promise you that I am being as accurate and scientific as possible, and it does make scientific sense in terms of what atoms can and cannot create. I think if scientists that study the brain can at least keep this in mind, it may help them to understand the nature of experience.

Not trying to be contrarian, but consciousness can absolutely be an "emergent property" of matter. How do we know? Because it is.
@chadkline4268Ай бұрын
@@jordancarter4426 no, that's not science. There's no such thing as an emergent property. That's just a delusional fiction of imagination. Also, we should be more clear on the terms of awareness and consciousness. Consciousness is the aggregate of sensory input by day, and the dream environment by night, and has biological origin. Awareness is what reads consciousness, and is a property of presence/spirit/being/self/sentience, the sense of 'am here', the life principle. Along with intent. These 2, awareness+intent, perform the R/W or I/O for creatures. Conscience signals as necessary. And these things are zero dimensional and outside of spacetime and are instantaneous. And learning how to separate the spirit from consciousness is part of the training that leads to enlightenment, as described by Christian mystics and Eastern spirituality and Sufis (Islam). It is the basis of probably all legitimate spirituality. And I know these things personally because I am able to accomplish it, and as a chemist+physicist, I further add that the spirit is distinct from mind+body, not dependent upon atoms/biology, is zero dimensional, and outside of spacetime. It is what we are. In Buddhism, this attainment is called Cessation. Or 9th jhana. It is the highest meditation attainment. And from reading reports of Christian mystics such as Meister Eckhart, and other saints, they seem to describe the same knowledge. The binding power is sensual intent, intents associated with consciousness. Thus, religions declare excessive sensual desire as evil, and the ending of sensual desires as holy. As a child, I often thought the ultimate in scientific knowledge, and the ultimate in spiritual knowledge, must converge, and they kind of do at this point. Science can go so far, but ends at the domain of spirituality. And by knowing what science+matter is, we can see that whatever we are is not related. Eg, the spirit can't get cancer, it doesn't grow or diminish throughout life, it can't get ill, it doesn't tire or require sleep, it's active by day+night, it can't be located or divided or diminished regardless of what is done to body/brain, etc. The properties of spirit are completely contrary to properties of matter. If you get drunk, the self that is aware of the intoxication is not itself intoxicated. That awareness in the background is never affected by the matter in the foreground. If the spirit was an emergent property, it would suffer all the effects of matter, but it doesn't, ever. I also put forth the idea that the sense of familiarity and the signal of recognition is in the spiritual domain. The brain learns math+reading+associations, etc, things that require effort+time. But the spiritual domain accounts for visual storage and recognition and familiarity and things that are instantaneous with complexity that defies any biological basis. In my view, to even suppose that the brain contains all visual data of a lifetime is absurd. And to imagine that a partial view of a face that has aged 30 years since you last saw it can be recognized instantly and so attributed to the brain .. is double absurd. For whatever reason, man thinks that because he understands some physical laws+properties, he can understand the nature of all things as arising from matter. Which, in my view, is triple absurd. There's something very dull about that level of intellect. It has no basis in science, reason, logic, common sense, or any other sane ground.

Very interesting video! I have a question (I don't study neuroscience or medicine so forgive my ignorance). Does the algorithms for mapping the radiations emitted by brain waves with the position and orientation of the pyramidal cell that emitted it, change from person to person, or brain wave detections on two different people can be interpreted (i.e. translated into the visualization of the brain at minute 4:08 ) using the same algorithms? Thank you!

Generally we consider the folds and angulations of these cells to carry over between people and so we use the Talairach projection, which is a sort of generic virtual brain, to guess where the signals emanate from. It works pretty well, especially to see cells from the insula, which is a deep and folded section responsible for gut type actual and emotional feelings. They tend to be the same for most people.
