I've had 4 bullmastiffs over the years, still have one, they are without a doubt (in my opinion) the best family dogs, they couldn't have been more gentle and affectionate around kids, one of my sons now has one himself, they're an amazing dog, they are very needy in terms of needing affection, they need to be treated accordingly, wonderful family dogs

Accent is my favorite when you say perfect. Had a 8 1/2 year old bullmastiff. Just rescued a 2+ old bullmastiff wondering how to let a year old hyper little girl that’s staying with us for a while interact with him. Kept here away for this first week but slowly have let her interact with him keeping her high pitch nature down not doing face to face interaction of course not letting her be on the floor with him always standing and never bothering him while eating though I have rub him etc while eating no food aggression as I’ve seen. But want him to see her and her mother as family and part or his group to protect. He is sweet and hasn’t shown any danger signs from my non professional assessment. Of course we never Leave him alone with her just need to know what the best way to move forward. Thanks

I could not agree more with your video. When I had one, it was perfectly fine around the kids, although, it did take up a lot of room on the couch, and many a wrestling match ensued for a spot on it. Plus when the kids played in the front yard with the 200 plus pound behemoth, most people walked to the other side of the street. I would add one thing. Being a massive animal, you need to make sure that you instill yourself as its leader early. You don't want such a monster to even think about challenging u, even if it is ultra rare with this breed. It happened only once or twice, but never again.

Our Bullmastiffs were super gentle with other dogs. Our 1st bullmastiff had several tiny poodle friends and was very careful around them. Our children were raised by Bullmastiffs...perfect breed for little children, as well as big children, adults, other dogs..... They are super smart and will guard when needed, but their default behavior is to love everyone. Our bullmastiffs loved cats...1st bullmastiff liked to chase neighbor cat when he came into the yard at night but also liked to snuggle with the cat. Some of them will go after rabbits, mice, etc...some could care less.

The two I owned (both females) were great with cats and incredible with people in general. If that person was welcome in your home, the Bullies were more than willing to allow that person to love on them for their entire visit. Very, very social to the point they considered a trip to the vet to be a party.

If you don't mind my asking, do you feel that female Bullmastiffs are more gentle than males? I notice you mentioned that both of yours were female. I am particularly interested in which would be more gentle with cats. Including one senior kitty and one young kitty who will try to get the dog to play.

Sound like my bullmastiffs. All three were great with people and they also loved cats, two of them in the standard way and the third (my first bullmastiff) in her own way. She used to chase them according to my mom. My third bullmastiff was a real gentle giant. She would not fight anything. She even tried to make friends with deer.

@@robersonclan4879 Thank you for the nice reply. 😊 I actually ended up adopting a rescue Boxer. She looks and acts a lot like a very small Bullmastiff. (Well, like a rescue Bullmastiff maybe) Only thinner. I know what you mean about not being aggressive, but being very alert and aware of everything. My Boxer had a pretty bad life before me, so she's scared of most people. But she's fearless with dogs, though not aggressive. And she doesn't look scared, so people see her alertness and her guarding stance and they assume that she's guarding me. Maybe she is. I'd still love to have a Bullmastiff someday. But I was pretty fortunate to have this sweet Boxer just fall into my life. So, right now I feel contented with 2 kitties and her. 🐾🐾🐾

This is exactly the information that I was wanting to know. I have two beloved kitties who are my life. So, I will want my future dog to love and protect them with me and be extremely gentle with my cats. I would also want my dog to protect me if needed, but otherwise pretty much just be chill. And I love the size. From this and everything else I've learned about the breed, it sounds like the Bullmastiff is the breed for me.

@@SolidGeddoe I actually didn't. I realized that I can't afford all that goes into having a dog that big right now. I went with a Boxer who I adopted as an adult instead. She is calm and sweet and very gentle with my kitties. Far calmer than most Boxers. And even though she's afraid of most people due to her past, she has shown signs of guarding. So far she looks and acts mostly like a small Bullmastiff. I wish I could recommend for or against a Bullmastiff as a new sibling to your little pup. But it does look like Tua is pretty gentle with his Min Pin sister. And I did message with quite a few people who had Bullmastiffs with cats and small dogs. Everyone I talked to said that theirs were very sweet to the other furbabies.

Females are more temperamental and moody, and are more about protecting you. Males are more goofy and affectionate and focus more on protecting their property. It honestly doesn't matter which one you get, but females are more about being a lap dog, and males are about using you as a bed if you're on their couch if that makes sense
@cblandblueyonder

I have an intact male, and sometimes small neutered dogs can be aggressive towards him, but he ignores this. However, he won't tolerate a larger dog trying to dominate him, and my understanding is that most Bullmastiff males to tend towards dominance (not aggression) - he just assumes that he is the boss, but he is not a bully, if that makes sense. I would guess that the "safest" option is the opposite gender, but if your current dog is not dominant, either should be fine. If your current dog is dominant and tries to boss large male dogs, then introducing a large male (and likely dominant) dog could be tricky if they didn't find equilibrium. PS I'm not an expert, these are just my thoughts. As I understand it, the most difficult situation can be two females that don't get on.

We have a male 3yo mixed Chihuahua of 5kg we got 1.5years ago. At home he's very chill but barks at EVERY stranger dog when I take him for a walk. I try to socialize him the best I can but he will actually try to bite the other dog when I let him approach one. He will also let no stranger pet him ( took 3months for my mother to touch him, seeing her once every weekend) I have a friend who has a very calm ~20kg neutered male dog, he really gets along with him. Everytime he sees him they play for an hour, he'll try hump him all along but my friend's dog is ok with it and will let him know when it's really annoying. My chi is very cool once he gets to know the other dogs. So, having always wanted a big dog I took interest in the bull mastiff. Do you think it would be safe for the chi ? Will, I am another behaviourist. I adore your passion; however, the chop and change between Bm CC and Em are frustrating for the potential keeper; note, I never use the term "owner' to "own" implies everything Coppinger and McConnell ever cited against. It is your responsibility as a behaviourist to have a strong and convincing portfolio of information. Through selective breeding, the Bm is basically, in temperament and through physical confirmation, an energetic version of an Em being 60% so genetically; you said so yourself in a previous. Your energy is fabulous; however, I would prefer that, as professional as you are, you limit the advertising of the Cane Corso to strict consultations and not the general public on social media. I share my life with 2 Bullmastiffs, Bria and Seamus; I have previously lived with Texas, an English Mastiff. More and more Cane Corsos are ending up in UK shelters. Too much Dog for most people!. You don't need to present them here. Respectfully 😀
