My dad used to make and deliver concrete burial vaults in the late 60s/early 70s. The company he worked for (in Southwestern Ontario) is still in operation but they don't mix their own concrete any more, they make the forms ready and a local ready mix outfit brings the concrete in one of their trucks.

Well, well!! I went to school with a Brown, and still drive past the factory on Hwy 36 several times a month. Back when I was young I never had curiosity about how the burial vaults were built. For decades now though I have wonder, “What Exactly Do They Do It There??” My classmate, who was a very good tennis player, had a tiny model of a Chandler-Wilbert-Brown burial vault which he once showed to people. As I recall, his grandmother, a Chandler, owned the company at the time; and had given him the sales sample. It was actually “cute” in being the size of half a bread loaf. I also recall how my classmate’s father - who liked to travel overseas - spoke as a guest at some class we took; I think it was an introduction to personal economics(?). We’re almost to our 47th year following high school graduation; time flies… I’ve always liked the message board adjacent the big clock by the Wilbert factory overlooking Highway 36 in Roseville: “Drive Carefully! We Can Wait!” Great episode! Thank you!!

This is pretty neat. I work for a small family owned vault company in the U.P. Of Michigan, we're the only ones who do it. Wilbur is our only competitor but they don't drive up here because delivery is very expensive. We only have 4 forms for pouring vaults

Fantastic! Nowonder it is all so expensive! But proper!

Absolutely fantastic i remember some 40 years about these actually they were use way back our time and this day still do in many different forms of burial these days but seeing this is absolutely fantastic actually not been Harsh or anything would be great to know your soul would be more care for especially in a vault it may be more expensive but its fantastic service especially 👍👍👍👍

It is a very cool video, despite being an absolute waste of time along with caskets and many things in the funeral industry. its for the living not for the dead.. the body will decay regardless.. but much respect to the funeral industry professionals for helping families throughout history.

So Lauren, I know this is an old video, but i'd really like to hear from the people who do that work, or at least have them explain what the career is called, how did they get into that field, the skills needed, ect. People know a few jobs in the field, but i've never even heard of this field.

@nick: Make it a sturdy, many mils thick, bag. No one wants remains falling out a bad bottom seam or splitting a side… Have you given thought to the method of closure? Twist-tie? Drawstrings? Tape? I’m assuming that basic black would be the appropriate color, but that’s up to you… 🗑️🚛

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Do you want to accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior? It’s the most important decision you will ever make.

These concrete vaults will fail in the long run. Moisture in the ground will cause the concrete to deteriorate. I saw it with my own eyes in Pearl City, Hawaii.
