Black folks can quit their jobs once they realize how much they REALLY need to retire - and it may not necessarily be as much we think. ‪@StephaniePerry‬ interviewed ‪@Roshida‬ last week and the topic was how are so many black women quitting their jobs. ‪@BlaxitGlobal‬ interviewed a friend of Our Black Utopia about her early retirement how she did it and how she is adjusting. After speaking with a few of our clients who have enough money to at least quit the full-time 'corporate grind'; we decided to continue the conversation with some examples of how you can evaluate if you've got enough saved to serve notice. 😉

I’m 52 and quit May 2023 due to the stress of my high paying 6 figure job!! Then after my resignation my boss offered me a 30k raise and the entire summer off!!! Really??? Now you see my value?? Me, myself, and I. ... I'm 32, on January 5th, I resigned from my place of work effective immediately. I returned my laptop and accessories to the main lobby and emailed my letter of resignation. I cc'ed hr and my manager. 1/06 I got in my class B campervan drove to a vanlife learning festival in Quartsite,AZ. I'm just now heading back to my home state after driving down to Yuma, AZ, San Diego, CA, and Phoenix, AZ. I deserve a break.... As scary as it seems, I'm not even in a rush to find another job. I'm learning to simplify my life and relax my brain. I'm so tired of feeling overworked while dealing with microaggressions from corporate management. I stayed at a luxury rv park and found myself enjoying game night with retired boomers who taught me how they play bingo. 😂😊 I feel free and ready to show myself some love. - 1/28.

I literally did the same thing on the exact same day this year lol! It was so out of the ordinary and I was surprised that I had resigned because. I have given the company a quarter of my lifetime. My boss retaliated against me and held my last paycheck. I could not take the abuse and mistreatment anymore.

I retired at 41. Times are changing. We must be smarter. Working harder is not necessarily smart, especially if it isn't for yourself. The world is moving in a different direction, and the low paying jobs will not keep up with inflation, which will only get worse. The way we invest must change also. The plan is to ensure we own nothing and be glad about it.

They have already priced everyone out of the housing market that do not have stacks of money. Our young ones will never be able to afford a house. Just look at all the apartments being built. Since retired 5mon ago from DMV I’ve painted the hold house down Stairs and up stairs all by myself my spouse helped me with the trimming. It took me approximately 4 months to complete and saved money. Because professional painters wanted to change us between 8 - 10 thousand dollars. Plus I’ve learned a lot about painting and plastering. It is a very rewarding feeling. Praise GOD I’m in good health. 😊

The key - is the manage your expenses. Pershingrifles - do you know where every single dollar is going? When we looked line by line at our spending we noticed that we were spending almost $1,000 per month eating out at restaurants. And then we would complain that we couldn't go on that European vacation with our friends.

@OurBlackUtopia Not really! I just don't like owing anyone anything. I must say, though. There is a plan in place to take everything we own to include our homes. I read that after the crash in 2008, the government took over all mortgage backed homes. Imagine that! Honestly, we don't really own them anyway, even after paying them off.

First time watching and I feel at home. Started working salary at 18 and had all my 40 work credit at age 38 on the dot. My dad got sick and passed soon after and I had to make a choice to help my dad and I’m glad I did and lost the job. These jobs keep us so busy we can’t follow our dreams, we can’t figure out our true history and we can’t find time to relax all while at the same time we are supposedly the laziest people on the planet. I was never one to kiss up for points or join in on cliques work place bullying others and I must say I’m proud of myself for it. I don’t miss any of it. I learned as many jobs as possible and kept getting passed up for promotions. I thought I was doing the right thing but they just kept using me thinking I liked being underpaid.

I had to quit my remote job on 12/31/2023 because my supervisor is racist and started shorting my work hours. I quit because she thought I couldn't make it with out that job. Little did she know I get my husbands social security and pension. I am a widow, I have arthritis in my hand it's hard for me to write or type. Getting treated like she was treating me is terrible. In 2020, I had a gut feeling about the change of times and threw money into my retirement and put it in a stabilized fund when inflation hit in 2022. We as Black people must begun to make better choices in our diets take adequate amounts of sunshine or take adequate amounts of vitamin D3 because it controls your immune system and overall health. Also our lifestyles are very important because stress is a killer my father had a saying and lifestyle "don't sweat the small stuff and guess what it's all small stuff" my father lived many years after retirement with this lifestyle.

Hello, I retired in 2020 during the pandemic, while working at home from a corporate job customer service. Our director sure made the job harder with so many unreasonable statistics. These stats were formulated so she could look good and not what the job really reflected. So they laid me off for 3 months and called me back to work the following week, but all along I had been thinking this was the perfect escape, and I took it. I worked there 31 years no nice emails of how valuable i was as an employee which was relayed to me from a friend at work. No one knew if I had quit or was fired. That wasn't very nice of them. Retired at 62, now I am 65, best thing i have ever done.

This came through my time line on KZbin…needed this cause everything said is soooo true ..I’m only 43 and have recently been laid off with a hefty severance and bonus (which I’m grateful) but after being off since December 23’ I can tell how stressful that job was making me now that I am free. I’m so happy I stumbled upon your channel. Clearly by accident and maybe not. I was terminated from my job as a property manager on January 3, 2024 . I prayed on January 2, 2024 asked God to help me because the job was very dangerous and stressful. My property was a distressed tax Credit property and the criminal activity was out of control before I took over it was bad 😳 I was overwhelmed and scared. The next day the Regional manager came in with false charges and told me based on their findings I was not a good fit for the company. I replied thank you Jesus!!!!! Glory to God, he heard my request and answered me the next day 💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿 since I’ve been home I have been trying to find something and I’m going to start a house sitting service that will keep me free and keep money coming in. So much politics in property management and corporate America period. So happy to be free💯💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿

Good vibes from you guys - I started W2 work at the age of 14 from fast food into health care. Im now 50 and proffessional nursing has drastically changed. I've seen the ugly from pay disparites (especially if you're black and a woman) to the horrible staffing in most hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. Its all become a huge money grab and its become dangerous and unhealthy to your mind and body. IM OVER IT!! Living in and working on the property that my husbands mother left us its a heck of a challenge - we own it debt free- the idea is to continue to upgrade and add more space. The way this world is going its better to own your home if at all possible and have as less debt as possible. Real Estate investing may be a better option to make money as long its done correctly. just FYI- DO NOT KEEP ALL OF YOUR MONEY IN THE BANK. HAVE CASH ON HAND THAT YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON IF YOU NEED IT. Thats a whole video I need to do.

Hello, Halisi and Ric, i can relate to your topic i left the workforce early last year. My wife left at the end of last year early her corporate job and we are preparing to move abroad to Thailand. We are just 52 years old but i wanted to be stress free and let the chains of long on fair American hours go and take a breath of fresh air. We did a two-three month stay in Thailand last year 2023. It was fun and exciting to leave the racial divided USA. society. I enjoyed people treating us like a real human people and not being 3/5 of a person. Preparing to sell the house and our belongings, to live near the beach of Pattaya Thailand. It takes a plan to leave the jobs early to survive each day as a normal person. The lower cost and top-notch health care will allow us to follow our dreams to try something different adventure abroad in southeast Asia, before the flicker of life ends for us, time is short you better live now!! I am really considering selling my house. I'm in Houston, and my property hasn't risen very much in price. Only about 80 grand. And that's enough to live on permanently. But I know I need to get the hell out of dodge. I have NEVER been or suffered from depression. But the last 3 to 5 years have been HELL WITH GASOLINE PANTIES ON. I don't know what to do. These jobs are HORRIBLE, to say the least. I've been nursing for 23 years, and I HATE IT. Nursing was fun when I started. Yes, there were inequalities and the backhand BS. But the TURMOIL that set in during the time that trump was running for and in office. Set off some DIABOLICAL MADNESS and peoples masks came flying off. And for some reason, I just feel I've never recovered from what I saw, heard, and the treatment I received. I have so much anxiety that it's unreal. I've gained so much weight from steroids and medication. I text all that to say THANK Y'ALL for keeping us informed on choices and ways to leave this place. Before I end up in a pine box.

Hey Valerie, if you do not have access to a 401k than you should set up an IRA and try and max that out every year. What ever amount you are saving and investing $5.00/week or $50/week try and increase it by 1% at regular intervals; once per paycheck/month/quarter. If increase your savings rate by 1% per month by the end of the year you will be saving 12% more than you were before. 😉. Let us know how else we can help your journey. I hear you, more free time is essential for mental, physical and spiritual peace. I always worked part-time. People asked me why and I told them I needed time for myself and didn't want to totally tie my soul to a job that treated poorly. Working part-time allowed me to learn tracing deeds for friends buying properties and to relearn how to sew without the fear. In fact, I helped friends acquire properties by taking loans out of their retirement (they didn't qualify for a regular loan and taking a loan from themselves didn't put them in debt.).

I just retired early last May, former teacher. I think a lot of people really had an exit plan because they saw their employer in a different light during the pandemic. When people were home they realize they were working too hard for too little money. Many people have moved to more tech jobs where the playing field seems to be more equal. I want to visit Portugal. I was recently on a cruise and a whole group of Senior Citizens were telling me how they are moving to Mexico. Many people are feeling pushed out of Florida.

Hey Mrs Sparkle - Thank you so much for watching and for adding to the conversation. 💕 Florida may still be fine for folks moving from NYC, Chicago, or LA - but for most of the rest of us, it's too expensive. The pandemic definitely illuminated some unhealthy American habits, if people were willing to look. It also helped Ric and I see how little we needed to survive on. So during the lock down we paid the last of our credit card debt and upped our savings rate to 65% of our income.

If you own a property up north and sold it you can still purchase a 3 bedroom townhouse in Florida for 250k-$300 in a nice community with amenities. Also, you can save your money while working part time to pay light, water Internet and food. Remote work is in as well. The rest of hours belongs to you.

Good stuff!!! In regards to health care, Educate yourselves on your health before going to the doctors. I found that if you question them and ask specific questions, ask their names (especially if in the ER or hospital) ask for the spelling of their names if you are unsure... take notes... healthcare workers will feel more accountable when you take more of an interest in yourself and when their names and credentials are on the line💯

I have not quit my job. I have went Part time to pursue more education. The feeling that soon I will be going back into the day to day 9-5 grind and managing a household, being present in my relationship with my partner and kids is so devastating and has created so much more worry in my life. I want to be able to support myself and my family so that my partner can be comfortable to pursue his passions and show him that it is possible and grow our savings so we can begin building a family and the life we want to live and grow old pursuing!!!!

New to your channel. I just turned 40. I am a single mom of 2 of which one has a disability. Last time I worked was Sept 2019 they let me go. I've applied for so many jobs and interviewed for 2022 and 2023 and every time I get turned down. I gave up after the 100th interview. Being African American and a woman, I just got so tired of being used for an interview to not get hired. I'm so tired of the long hours just to be stressed out over to say I have a roof over my head knowing they can raise the rent anytime. The homeless are the smart ones saving the little or more income that they may have or need Seems like it is easier to live on the street instead of stressing over a place. Why rent for a place of many years that you will NEVER own. As a Renter ...After I pay rent and lights for the month i'm broke. You two are a breath of fresh air. Ty

Good Afternoon. I was perusing through YB and was blessed to listen to your video, how are so many black folks quitting their jobs? This video was great. I am a mom of two teenage girls, one entering high school next year and so much is going on. I am not accountable and know better since you discussed white supremacy and how, we as, AA unknowingly adhere to these unwritten rules and way of livin', i.e., keeping up with the Jones'. I tell my children to work hard in school, and work smart at work. Employers always want to dangle the carrots in front of us, as if we worked harder and "be a team player" then maybe a raise, etc will come. I am not falling for the gaslighting any more. Wow!!! This is deep! … I retired on 31 December 23 at age 52. Just Fed up - fortunately I’m in a financial position to do so and honestly feel it’s the best decision for me. I love seeing people break free from jobs that they know don’t give a damn about them or their well being giving your all to some of these jobs that will replace you in a heartbeat and not even care about how long you have dedicated your time to the pandemic has opened many eyes to people of this and now people would rather work a part time and have a side hustle the downside to this is the quality of service in a vast majority of jobs across the board has been pure trash nobody cares about customer service these days you get below average service because nobody wants to work for these jobs that just suck the life out of you and the pay sucks

I didn’t “retire” per se. I left working for others and went full time private therapy practice. I had a “good govt” job too. But what I wasn’t gonna do is work against my ethical and moral value. So I left. I didn’t know I was going full time private practice until I did. It’s been a challenge but idk why I hadn’t done this sooner.
