I see that you just plug them into your phone outside. I really hope that you had an opportunity to plug them into a proper DAC with a headphone amp. Schiit makes good stuff. Check out the Schiit Magni 3 for instance. Those cans need a good amp and DAC to sound their best.

No, you can't jsut recommend an entire brand. The reason these HD58X's sound as good as they do, is because they basically use the same driver they use in the Sennheiser 660S, which cost about twice the price of these.

These are slightly tweaked versions of the legendary 660s and are worth every penny. Price is so cheap because massdrop makes deals with vendors to deliver guaranteed sales. So vendors can then have a run of product made and know they are going to be making some sort of profit. Costco does something similar by buying the product out right so vendors can charge them less then retail as it’s guaranteed sales.

The same driver, driver tuning and chassis as the 660S, with the only tweaks being an extra piece of foam in each earcup, and thin paper diaphragms on the outside of each driver, both removable should you just want cheaper 660S (I tried removing the foam and ended up leaving it in, preferred it that way), glossy paint for parts of the chassis, simplified packaging and removal of unnecessary accessories, the 58X is a steal for $150. Having the K7XX, Argon MK3 w/ Eikon pads, MDR-1A and more, I'd say this is the best sounding headphone I have, just slightly above the K7XX, with comfort a close second to the K7XX

Right now I use the m50x on my computer (due to the fact they are comfortable for long sessions) and use the 1more triple driver over ears which I got on Massdrop for $150 (the MSRP is actually $250 so it's a good deal). Definitely sounds better than the m50x, though I can't wear them as long and they don't have as good a surround effect for games. Now I'm saving up for the Aeon Flow C as it is basically my end game (they cost $800!).

@@tjsmithson1598 like I said, the 1mores do have more imaging and separation, but they sound more like the audio is being funneled toward my ear and not surrounding me. Plus, I want closed backs as my PC is in the basement, as is the washing machine, dryer, and the water heater. That's why I'm looking at the Aron Flow closed backs, about the best I can find for closed back headphones. If I wanted opens I might just go all out and get the Stax L700.

You should really try Beyerdynamic Dt770, they are awesome closed heaphones (quite clunky but the sound is so good and the bass is god tier)

Skylancer727 as much it emphasizes highs they do the same with lows(V shaped), in comparison with m50x they have alot more spaciousness(I’ve hated m50x so much cause I wasn’t able to breathe properly using them, so small soundstage) so, I’d say they are noticeable different(even if the price is almost the same). Not saying you should buy it, but you should probably try to hear some music with it and see what you think, you’ll be surprised in a good way.

The HD58X might be the best bang for your bucks, because it has identical drivers from the HD660S which costs a few times more than this. The only differences are the look and one piece of foam inside each earcups to give it a bit more bass than the HD660S(can be easily removed). Sennheiser is really pushing the sale recently. I bought the HD660S just a few weeks before this headphone launched and I'm regretting it so hard.

The HD650 was one of the most popular flagship headphones made by Sennheiser. To many people, it sounds PERFECT. The only problem with it was the aging drivers from many years ago. Sennheiser solved this problem by using new drivers from HD700 and tuning them in a way so they sound as close as possible to HD650. The result is HD660S, the combination of the most loved sound signature and modern drivers with specs(resolution and such) comparable to other modern headphones. It's like a dream product.

Cooler Master MH752 might be a decent compromise if you want a comfortable closed-back with great built-in mic, just ask Z Reviews. Otherwise use these with an amp and a mod mic or desk mic and enjoy a great audio setup for cheap!

I have owned a pair of these for 4-5 years and I don’t know what the guy is talking about how he never gets that headache building pressure from the clamp squeezing too hard.. but these headphones are notoriously bad for it with me. I actually disliked using them for many years because I could never get them comfortable and thought it was just me. I guess other people have complained about these too so the only way I found to fix this problem was to buy drop ear pads that were bigger and softer and it worked out

Senhisser is great for sound but horrible for comfort. I have pxc 550 and at it's price it should not feel so uncomfortable if not worn perfectly. Also his ears were bright red after wearing it so it's questionable if any one should buy that.

@@crazymonkey5550 Better drivers and open back design. High quality material and can be drived using an amp for higher clarity. For example, if you crank your earbuds past a certain point it sounds like yelling or just a mesh of sounds. But with these 150ohm headsets they need/use more electricity to deliver better sound. Gaming headsets promote their own 7.1 virtual surround technology, but really you can get that software from anywhere and is usually built into games.

It's the attributes Like those you mentioned, that separate the generic people, from the intellectuals....Keep on enjoying, and knowing more about Sound, Tuning, etc. And eventually the more people will have an understanding of what Quality Sound is meant to be.... Open back?... I get it I am a audiophile, molest monitors from time to time. In all honesty if you want a all in one headphone get a closed back because you can't use these for gaming at night if you have a family nor can you use it for "alone time"... Not even joking, get your self a pair of M50X's if you can afford them and if you can't Status CB-1's. I have a pair of Status CB-1's that I use for gaming and they are absolutely perfect for the price and sound better than almost every gaming headset under $100 and rival can's twice the price or more. If you want open back headphones these are good... BUT not if you want a do it all headphone.

You can use software to simulate 7.1 surround(which is what most headphones do anyway) but no it just has a decently large sound stage. It isn't as wide of a sound stage as the 6xx/598 but still pretty decent and the lows are better.

7.1 surround doesn't really matter in headphones. Most surround headphones are only virtual surround which there are little adapters for anything to have sound stage like that, or on a PC you usually have a "spacial sound" setting in the properties you can just tick on for the same effect. Since the driver is bigger than your ear it can already direct sound in all directions (good virtual surround can be even better than true surround). True surround headphones also have a bad history as the extra drivers tend to interfere with each other. Because of this, virtual surround has always been king. I use the Sony HW400 on my PS4 for 9.1 virtual surround for, example, using the HDMI as an audio feed with the modmic 4 for voice chat (though the modmic forces you to go to the settings when you plug as it cut the headphones out, so I don't really recommend this). On my PC I just use standard headphones with a $100 DAC/amp.

You don't need surround sound with headphones (and those that do are fooling you). That's not how your ears work. You don't have more than 2 ears. You determine direction of sound due to the way the sound waves interact with the folds in your ears among other things. Therefore, all you need to hear directionality is a proper recording using binaural audio.

Actually, there are 7.1 real headphones but you won't be able to notice much difference, the driver need to be sized down and the position of the driver will impact frequency response. And the amount of cables you need to connect is ridiculous, which will dump any possibility of using an dedicated DAC/Amplifier unless you expend even more money to buy a $500+ home theater dac and have a hard time because the potency of the home theater is magnitudes higher than any headset is able to handle(which will damage the unit) and with the amount of adapters to get it near working (If you still spend that much, in the end you'll hardly notice any difference from simulated 7.1 using normal headphones so, why bother)
