What has been brilliant about Slot is all the weaknesses Liverpool fans had identified in the last couple of years under Klopp, he's either addressed or has made it clear it needs to be addressed. He's made us more solid without taking away any of our attacking threat. I loved Klopp, every Liverpool fan did but it was time for a change the old emotional up and at em style could not be sustained. This is a style that can. We're playing smarter now, but still with the same desire.

Tbf I don't think we are creating as many chances, but the conversion rate is likely higher. I am enjoying the stability, but I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the old fluidity in the final third (excluding the end of last season of course).
@mattinterwebАй бұрын
@@kdjannie3214 personally think we look as fluid as last season, but more solid. Significant accomplishment after only 10 games.
@distantantАй бұрын
We don't create as many chances like in the Palace game yet we also dont concede nearly as much and seem to be more clinical. However the lack of chances can easily bite us. NF got one goal against us at Anfield and we couldn't do anything throughout the entire game. The team simply wasn't able to generate goal chances.
@mattinterwebАй бұрын
@@distantant he's not going to solve everything in 10 games. First time he had to play a low block and the players were terrible that day guilty of giving the ball away in the final third all the time and squandering situations. The players were largely the same under the last couple of seasons under Klopp - struggling against lowly placed teams organised into a low block. Give it time, Slots on it!

The craziest thing about Gravenberch's success this year is that he wouldn't even be at Liverpool if Hendo and Fabinho hadn't ditched us for the Saudi League out of nowhere last summer, and he would've lost his spot this year before he even got a chance if the Zubimendi deal didn't fall apart at the last minute.

Gravenberch isn't really learning the role. That's the role he played at Ajax when he was so good and Bayern decided to buy him. Slot being in the same league at the time saw his talents, and just making him play more to his strength. Gravenberch even said in an interview that Slot called him over the summer and told him to focus on playing as an 8 and a 6, that it will be where he would be playing.
@KayZenShoGün18 күн бұрын

One thing people forget is that Salah and VVD are physical specimens. Both of them were in conversation to win a Ballon d'or at one time. VVD back after that ACL injury took awhile, but he looks as fit as ever now. Wouldn't be surprised if the both of them could still play at the highest level for a further 5 years. And this is where Liverpool FC need ensure they sign them
@ComradeOgilvy1984Ай бұрын
People talked about his pace, which has dropped off a bit. But what really made VVD a monster is his ridiculously good sense of balance when moving at good speed for such a big man; that allowed him to suddenly change direction and shut down attackers with his full strength. In the season back from the ACL injury, you could see that he slipped several times because that sense of balance was not quite there -- he legs could not quite do it. Right now, his ability to change direction is basically 95% of what it was pre-injury.
@cheatoh8261Ай бұрын
VVD Maybe but 5 years is a big stretch for Salah. I would like to keep him as a backup/ rotation to whoever our new right winger is though
@ADHD_Meditation_ClubАй бұрын
@@cheatoh8261 Salah doesn't need to run as much these days, and he's gotten a lot more efficient and changed to more of a provider of chances than a pure goal scorer. He's also, always been ridiculously injury resistant - I could see him have as long a career as Giggs had.
@Anon97123Ай бұрын
Tbf I don’t actually think Salah was ever in a Ballon D’or convo as brilliant as he’s been. His peak just overlapped when the standard was ridiculously high in the late 2010s. Messi, Lewandowski etc.

I'm astounded at how good Grevenberch is this season. Seems like Slot has unlocked how to get the best out of this player. Ditto Gakpo. Ditto Diaz. Ditto Liverpools leaky defence.
@ComradeOgilvy1984Ай бұрын
On the offensive side, Gravenberch is doing the hard things Slot has asked for and made them look easy. He is just a natural there with no ceiling; he might plausibly blossom to the best to ever to play that position -- time will tell. On the defensive side, Gravenberch is no pacy destroyer. On the plus side, Slot insists on the whole team quickly clogging the central channel in the transition to defense, and that give Gravenberch a degree of cover and makes his decision making much easier. In this context, Ryan is using his attributes to great effect and making a strong defensive contribution.

Klopp went for a really risky high line. We had VVD and either Konate/Quansah last season basically at midfield when we were attacking. This lead to many opportunities for the opposition teams if they had a break. Liverpool was the most exciting team to watch under Klopp. Now Slot has reduced that totally. Give Slot a few more years. He will turn that team into something great again.

I am very very happy to see them be more selective in pressing, more strategic in pressing , and Arne 's genius plan for Gravenberch play out so well. Also, that they can actually deem to sit back sometimes and again be selective in the chances to attack , which can be so predictable over the course of a whole season under the previous manager. The unrelenting (and no surprise) repetitive heavy metal attack can be effective but this is what I always hoped to see more of in this team and it's come to pass under Arne.
@Shanksnpaisley1Ай бұрын
There is not a lot of vertical space. Its actually about 16 yards from Palace's front line to back line. The space shown on the Subuteo board is exaggerated (show palace's front line at the half way, which it wasn't in the picture). The space to be found is outside of the two holding mids for Palace, and behind or outside their front 3.

The best thing for me is that we’re not predictable anymore, we had 2 sort of styles under klopp over the years and both revolved around trent really. In the first half of klopps time trent and robertson would bomb forward all the time and henderson/wijnaldum would cover and we’d score from loads of crosses, in the second half of klopps time we had more creative midfielders so robertson was told to stay back more for trent to invert and when we started a game we rarely changed from minute 1 to 90 apart from the attackers being subbed. Under slot trent has gone back to like the first klopp system and the team as a whole is way less predictable as there’s so many variations to how we can attack, obviously prime klopp is gonna be better than any prime slot but everything fell into place with prime klopp, when something went wrong we struggled

@geraldezike5991Ай бұрын
That United game was a special case as well, I'd say. United planned to target Ryan, but Liverpool tweaked the system a bit and gave Ryan freedom to roam while Macca did the defensive work. You'd see Zirkzee was onto Ryan from the start, but once Ryan started moving forward, he didn't have the answer to that (cos that would mean he'd play deeper than he wanted).

Similar to your point about Klopp's system not helping Trent defensively, it would always boil my blood when I'd see people call Trent "lazy" when it was blatantly obvious that he was being told not to worry about busting a gut on defense so he could play as many minutes as humanly possible and be as effective as he can be when he's on the ball. He was basically an ancillary defender, a bonus. Now we're seeing Slot effectively say "give me everything on both sides of the ball and if the game is won by 70' then we can bring on Conor Bradley." I think its a much more sustainable way of implementing Trent and will hopefully do some work to dispel this mind-numbing narrative from ex United players about how he's simply "incapable" of defending.
