My mother actually met Arnold in the... eighties, I think? She worked as a receptionist/clerk at the front counter of a hotel that he checked into. She described him to me at one point as basically being the nicest person she'd seen that day, his hands almost double the size of hers, and looking about the most attractive he had ever looked. From even just hearing her fondly reminisce about seeing him that day, I can assure you those who didn't hire him were absolutely insane.

@photonicpizza14666 жыл бұрын
Frida Bergholtz Well, even today, people don't imagine "the perfect man" as someone super buff like Arnie. Plus, bodybuilding builds a different kind of muscle. These muscles are weaker and decay faster, but you build them up super fast. It's more form than function. Professional athletes and sportsmen have different muscles than bodybuilders, they look slimmer even when their physical abilities are equal.
@AshesAshes445 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. Sure, there were great big guys around, but many more who were just in damn fine shape or even a little wiry. It helps to look at contemporary art, not something done centuries later with a different sense of aesthetics.

I remember years ago I use to take walks and read by the water in Vancouver, and there was always this older guy who would come up to me and talk about the days when he use to hang out with Arnold and do bodybuilding with him. He had all these pictures in his wallet of him and Arnold. I never really knew whether he was for real or not. I mean the photos looked pretty legit, but he was way younger and looked way different (the guy who talked to me that is). I always found it funny though, in fact I even think he talked about a few of the things you did in the video.

To be fair they likely didn't hire him initially because who do you think the husbands would be more suspicious of that their wives hired for ogling and not actual work, the average looking guy or the hulk? Plus likely found him intimidating because of his size and those sorts of ads aren't really representative of women but rather what marketing people and/or men think women are like or want them to be like
@stevenlester26067 жыл бұрын
Not to demean Arnold's skill and intelligence, but he was also taught by the most successful bodybuilding entrepreneur of all by the name of Weider, whose company still publishes the bible of magazines concerning the bodybuilder to this day. He is why Arnold left to move to America, to train under the master, so to speak. Much like Bruce Lee training under the tutelage of the IP Man.

"$120" worth of video games that I don't find worth maybe $20 total together because I'll never play either I'm sure, but for some reason found them for $40 and decided it was worth it lmfao.

aged 19 Arnold was training at Bob Woolger's gym in Southsea Portsmouth & at Wag & Diane Bennett's gym in London before America, he lived with them for 2 years or so. Bob (my great uncle) & some friends of his started the first amateur body building association & is recognised as a pioneer of the sport, Bob and wag trained Arnold to win Mr universe pretty much. stayed good friends until Bob died in1996 , Diane (bobs daughter) was still kept a friendship last time we spoke. love this story heard it before always a favorite.

Lol, that's weird. I studied computer science, and people kept asking me to fix their computers (two fields that are related only by the fact that they use computers). Grey Goose vodka did a similar thing. It was cheap vodka that no one was buying. They put it in a fancy bottle and charged more. People in the USA have this idea that something inexpensive must not be quality and that something expensive must be really good. My mother years ago got mad at my father for buying cheap ice cream for a party. Everyone raved about how good the ice cream was.

There actually is a concept in business about finding a price that's low enough to attract attention but high enough to not seem like a rip off. There's actually a lot of psychology involved in business, for example: do you know why so many price tags in grocery stores end in .99, like $1.99 (or the British equivalent) while cars and big appliances end in whole numbers? It's because partial/odd numbers are seen as a better deal while whole/even numbers are seen as better quality.

To be fair, being strong is not enough for building work and things of that sort. You have to know what you're doing.
