Think it should be stressed that Kroenke didn't invest until he owned 100% of Arsenal in 2018. He saw no benefit from investing when Usmanov still owned like 40% of the club. As soon as he brought the club under his banner, he restructured the stadium debt and started steadily investing both financially and in terms of personnel.

Insightfull stuff! I’ve been an Arsenal fan since 2011 and I’m very impressed with their recent performance under Mikel Arteta.It’s fascinating to learn about how the club is run as it gives us some perspective. But it is something that many fans overlook. Arsenal’s business strategy makes sense to me as it translated on their tranfers policy. Under Mikel Arteta, they focus on developing young players with potential rather than spending big on established stars. They don’t have the financial power of some of the other big clubs, but that doesn’t mean they can’t compete at the highest level. They just need to be smart and patient, like in moneyball. And I think this strategy is paying off in the last few years.

You miss a big aspect of Kronke's reluctance to spend money before 2019. He didn't own Arsenal out right. The money spent has been since they have had full control. I've no idea how share holding works but at one point Moshiri and Usmanov, currently at Everton, where shareholders. Kind of glad they didn't spend money if those two had any say in how it was spent.

Yep this is exactly correct. The Kroenke's goal was to have 100% ownership, meaning they would have to buy the shares off of Usmanov and Moshiri. Investing in the club prior to owning 100% would mean increasing the overall value of the club, and therefore increasing the overall value in everyone's shares. If you plan on buying out other partial owners, its not in your interest at all to increase the value of those shares. Now that they own the whole club, it's in their interest to have the club be as successful, and therefore valuable, as possible.

Well, I guess he doesn’t really fit into discussions of high finance. Great video, however a key element you've missed out is that the Kroenkes did not have full control of Arsenal football club until 2018, and they have invested heavily since then. Of course the investment is driven by financial incentives, but you can't hold the lack of investment between 2008-2018 solely on the Kroenkes. I think it should have been mentioned that Kroenke bought the club and then let the club pay that purchase with the club's own profits. Football lives from emotion and someone who just sees the business side of things might make more money, but misses the entire point of bringing together millions of people and working towards a common goal. Obviously the way many EPL clubs are led is ridiculous, blood money owners who circumvent financial fairplay and so on, but at least show some passion as an owner of one of the biggest clubs in the world. Also, the title is quite misleading as it just looks at the financial side of things but in reality the real reason why Arsenal has reclaimed London is because they gave their young coach Arteta time and trusted him to lead them to good things. Kroenke had very little to do with it except for letting them spend some money.

Challenging for EPL just for one season does not erase the fact Chelsea have ran London throughout the past few years. Saving 20 millions pounds a year in interests is peanuts. The prices of players to compete for the Premier League now are crazy. 50 million pounds for any top quality player. Look at Liverpool spending on Jota, Gakpo, Nuñez and Díaz. Unless you do crazy good business, 20 million doesn't buy shoelaces for the top players.
