How Artifacts Rookie Redemptions Work

One thing we forgot to mention is that if a team doesn't have a rookie, UD will either use a rookie from a previous year for them OR they'll use a rookie from a different team in their place. Currently the Carolina Hurricanes (they JUST had Ponomarev debut last night), Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, and Winnipeg Jets have yet to have rookies debut in 2023-24! Thanks for tuning in :)

Those should both be pretty solid! If 233's alphabetical, it could be Pavel Mintyukov who's been a super good D for Anaheim. Purple Patch-Patch II is a sick pull as well!

I noticed that Luke Hughes does not have any of the typical jersey/patch rookie parallels in the set, just a 1/1 Black auto patch. Would that mean that he could be represented in the roman numeral rookie relic redemptions? I pulled a roman numeral III and I'm hoping on the off chance it turns out to be him. Thanks!

Yeah I think that the 1/1 patch auto would probably exclude him from at least the redemptions because he'd end up with two 1/1 black patch/tag autos which would be really weird. The regular materials probably has a slight chance, definitely a weird and unprecedented case haha!

I hate the redemption cards. I'm still waiting for my redemptions from 2022-23 Artifacts. Been almost a year & I have given up hope on EVER getting them. Status update says that they were shipped back in September, But I keep getting a run around from UD every time I question them about it. Redemptions are the worst. Best thing to do with redemptions is to sell them right away on eBay & let the buyer wait for a year out to receive them.

Hey! It'll say beneath where the code is exactly what it is. If it says Gold Jersey-Jersey, it'd be the Pavel Mintyukov jersey /399. If it says Black Patch-Tag, it'd be the /5. The golden V *should* be the jersey-jersey, as the black patch-tag is silver on black :)

REDR-9/12 are probably both going to be vertical cards as a heads up, even if the redemption is sideways (probably the 05-06 design; at least that's what it's been in prior years. For these, the range is really wide. Potentially: Levi, Poitras, Zary, Faber, Wolf, Mintyukov, Savoie, Kulich, Knies, Nemec, Askarov, Korchinski, Greig... there's more; it's a long list lol RED220 (Rangers) - probably Will Cuylle, maybe Brennan Othmann if they sneak him in RED211 (Red Wings) - They *haven't* had a rookie debut yet that's not in the set, so I've got NO idea haha. Could end up being a rookie from a different team. RED233 (Wildcard) - Alphabetical: Mintyukov/Luneau, Talent: Mintyukov, Savoie, Kulich, Korchinski, Evans RED241 (Wildcard) - Alphabetical: Calgary (Duehr, Pospisil)/CHI (Kochinski)/CBJ (Voronkov, Svozil)/EDM (Desharnais, Lavoie)/NYR (Othmann/Cuylle maybe?) rookies potentially, tough to tell haha. Talent wise: Othmann if he makes it, Luneau, Svozil, Voronkov, Evans, Lohrei...there are a lot of names again in this tier that are interchangeable RED234 (Wildcard) (same as 233, except maybe a boston/buffalo rookie if they do them alphabetically) Relic VI is probably in the Zary/Poitras/Mintyukov/Savoie/Nemec/Korchinski tiers Auto redemption 10 is the same list as RED 9/12 REDSP1 should be Bedard!

5 is going to be tough because there's a likely drop off after the big 4 (Bedard, Carlsson, Cooley, Fantilli). It could be one of those, but it's probably more likely to be one of like Zach Benson, Luke Hughes, Levi, Poitras, etc.,@@nickevans3675

If they go by player quality (so it'll be the 7th best remaining rookie), you're probably looking at like Tristan Luneau, Ryker Evans, Dmitri Voronkov, Stanislav Svozil... there are a lot of options here hahah. By city name, you're probably looking at someone from the Buffalo-Detroit range, so Jiri Kulich, Matthew Savoie, Ryan Johnson, Voronkov, Svozil, Martin Pospisil, Kevin Korchinski, Louis Crevier). TL;DR: there are a lot of options here, but for the most part should be getting a solid rookie hopefully

It's traditionally been the best player in the set at the time based on hype/expectations, so it's pretty likely to be Bedard

Nice one! If it's by city name alphabetically, you're probably looking at a Boston (John Beecher, Mason Lehrei, Georgii Merkulov) or Buffalo (Matthew Savoie/Jiri Kulich/Ryan Johnson) rookie IMO. If it's by best player, then you're looking at some one of Savoie, Kulich, Pavel Mintyukov, Kevin Korchinski, Dmitri Voronkov, and maybe Ryker Evans or Will Cuylle depending on how the team redemptions shake out

honestly, anything past IV or V this year is a wild dart throw. The rookie crop from 6-20 is close enough that you could argue a lot of players for that spot. I think you're looking at maybe a Connor Zary, Matthew Savoie, Jiri Kulich, Simon Nemec type player which is still great for 16. That checklist has always been tough to tell though, because last year Marchenko was XVI and he was one of the best ones to get when the checklist came out. @@smartie552

If you're looking to maximize value, the majority Artifacts rookies have historically declined in value over time as more sets come out since there are more rookies to collect (i.e. Young Guns, OPC, FWA, etc.) so you're generally better off selling earlier than later. There have been a couple exceptions to this, and it's possible Bedard will be one of those, but for context Bedard's expected redemptions are selling at the same price as McDavid's Artifacts rookie stuff so it is a little tough to see the value going up any more than what it currently is. Also, the earliest you're likely to get that physical card is April/May, but it could be anywhere between then and winter next year (last year's took awhile).

It's honestly really hard to know what that exact value will be if you keep it because there are so many variables and there hasn't been a comparable for that exact card yet if that makes sense. I would say around what it's selling for now if Bedard keeps progressing at the McDavid/Crosby levels he is, but might drop a little as other sets come out and people focus on things like his YG, Future Watch Auto, etc.

It's all up to you! If you're planning on redeeming it anyways, there's no harm in redeeming it now (that way you don't forget about it like I did one year and now have a pile of expired redemptions) If you might sell or trade it, you can wait for the list, but just set a reminder in your phone to redeem it before the expiry date haha

Hey! REDSP2 should be one of Adam Fantilli, Logan Cooley, Leo Carlsson, or Luke Hughes, but I'd say it's probably going to be Fantilli if I had to guess. For REDR-11, it's a little tougher because there are probably 15-20 rookies that could end up there depending on how much you like them haha. Some potential names are Poitras, Zary, Wolf, Mintyukov, Savoie, Kulic, Nemec, Knies, Korchinski, Greig, and Askarov but again it's a long list and will come down to who UD sees as as better

Bedard will likely be 207 (Chicago's team redemption). They typically use the team redemption cards (RED201-232 this year) for the best rookie from that team (Chicago should be Bedard, Columbus should be Fantilli, etc.), and then put the next 18 best rookies not used in the Wild Card redemptions (RED233-RED250). An example would be Kevin Korchinski, who likely won't be Chicago's rookie redemption because Bedard is better, so he'll likely be one of the Wild Card redemptions. RED233 will either be the best rookie (what they've done most years) or the first rookie by city name (what they did last year) that *is not* used as the team's redemption.

For last year Beniers was in the base rookie set so he already had an emerald jersey/patch card, which is why he wasn't in the redemption set. It *should* be Bedard this year, given that he's not in the base set and doesn't have that card.

It would be unprecedented if he wasn't. I has always gone to the top rookie/draft pick, assuming they were signing cards (which Bedard has an agreement with UD so that's not a worry)
