I don't think so. This is the kind of problem you also see with many people in the Star Wars fandom. They try to impose the story they themselves wanted to see instead of understanding the story on its own terms, the way the filmmakers intended them to see it.

And if they needed a marketable plushy just have it be where Starboy has no true shape but starts developing a more humanoid one the longer he remains on Earth or have it be where he turns into a star plushy in daylight and loses his powers. God they literally had a plushy and couple doll in one and just threw it away.

Honestly the whole thing with the demo song and animatics gave me some massive "biggering" vibes from the lorax. What's with these big companies having the early versions of movies having more depth and a meaningful story only to get botched? Great video btw!

3:25 The wild thing is that if Starboy was included in the film, this trope would've been completely subverted. Because Magnifico's goal around the last third of the movie was to take Star's power, Starboy would've been the one in danger, and Asha, who is the female protagonist, would've had to save her boyfriend rather than the other way around.

What would’ve worked more was if the king and queen were both evil and Asha was their daughter. Then Asha would’ve grown up thinking that keeping the wishes was the right thing and star boy had to help show her the right way. Also it would add a lot more to Asha’s character by standing against her parents since for all the other Disney princesses with evil parents they’re always stepparents (Lady Tremaine, Evil Queen, and Gothel). So the fact that a princesses actual parents are evil would’ve been so cool. I get wanting villains like the Evil Queen back but Magnifico should've been the sympathetic villain that is way too overprotective and wants to protect everyone due to his own trauma Also I wouldn't make Asha quirky I mean she can definitely have somethings but not as much as they did. I would make her more similar to Elsa and Mulan personality rather than Anna and Rapunzel. You could even keep the seven friends but make them people who have already given up their wishes so they're basically just miserable and Asha has to help them. Simon could still have his betrayal but add onto why he wants to be Magnifico's knight. He could be a friend that has a crush on Asha so he wants to become a knight to impress and protect her I would also change Asha's color palette and name. Purple reminds me too much of Rapunzel and Isabella. I wish they stuck with the orange red color palette from the concept art. In my rewrite I would also name her Luna instead of Asha since Luna means moon and the movie is about stars Also why is the kingdom of wishes called Rosas that means Roses it would make more sense if the kingdom was called Estrellas which literally means Stars.

I agree with most points but I think it's okay to make her default color purple as it contrasts yellow (which is most likely Starboy's color theme). She can wear orange/yellow as her special dress up gown with Starboy changing to blue/purple sparkling clothes in their dance/couple moment sequence

What kind of a character would Star Boy have been on his own terms? From what we know, he only exists to grant Asha's wish, and has no motivations of his own. He'd have no legs to stand on. He's hollow.

Nice video! Honestly, looking at all the fanart and stories for Star Boy and Asha makes me even more irritated and disappointed this wasn’t the movie. I seriously don’t know what the heck Disney was thinking scrapping this and Amaya as a villain. Imagine if Amaya was basically using her husband to come off as a “holier than thou art” kind of villain?? Disney is notorious for writing beautiful love stories for nearly every movie they’ve made! Getting really sick of villainizing romance or making it look like a weakness. And I don’t understand why Star Boy would’ve come off too similar as Genie, I honestly find it hilarious and a massive missed opportunity for another humorous male character like Flynn Rider.

Maleficent was the first female villain that wasn't human that actually interacted with the princesses love intrest, then Ursula tries to marry Eric as Vanessa and is later killed by him to save Ariel.. Then finally Gothel. She first finds out about Eugene thanks to his satchel and poster and Rapunzel's crown, then she sees him in person at the campfire scene, and warns Rapunzel about him, then tricks the sweet girl into thinking he abandoned her, thanks to the twins.. Then when he comes to get Rapunzel out of the tower.. Gothel stabs the crap out of him, thanks to a knife she grabbed, the minute he's sees his girl literally chained up, and that's the ONLY time he meets her in person, and even then, he could almost barely see anything, but like Eric, he ends killing Gothel by cutting off Rapunzel's hair with the glass shard, with Pascal helping to deal the final blow. He ends up dead, pretty much immediately after, but thanks to a tear from his girl, he soon wakes up, they share their first kiss, heads back to the kingdom to reunite the family, and the grateful king and queen pardon him of all crimes in the kingdom, allowing him to be with Rapunzel😍😍😍😍😍😍! They are NO JOKE in our eyes!

I think if Walt Disney was frozen and woke up for the hundred year anniversary movie that is Wish, he would just cry. God Disney was beautiful, if only we could have both the raw authentic creativity and passion as well as the newer, less sexist messages😔 I understand that they do need to take profit into account when making their movies. They’re a business creating gorgeous CGI animated movies that are expensive, and they obviously need to pay the writers and artists(though they probably aren’t getting payed great anyways). But they can still do that and not toss away all the love and care otherwise what’s the point in continuing this useless cycle of creating something they don’t care about to make money to create something they don’t care about to make money to create- etc etc. it hurts to see especially as an artist myself. Disney needs to start listening to their genuinely passionate and creative artists and writers more. I think they’d benefit greatly. To clarify, I’m not saying Disney is bad or anything like that, I truly love tons of their newer movies like Encanto and the, less new, newer movies like Tangled, Brave, Moana, etc. I just think they could be so much better if they cared a little bit more. If they wanted a plushie they could have gotten a plushie, here’s my idea: keep him as the plushie until they go to grab the wish from the tower, he sees all the people happy in the wishes and wants to be like them so he takes some of their features and becomes more humanoid, Asha freaks out obviously as magnifico walks in (hopefully not singing, or at least singing a good song) and then star would struggle to walk in his new form as they both try to cram each other into the elevator thing, maybe some romantic tension because they are so close to each other. BOOM! marketable plushie AND a hot new character that everybody will simp for

If you want a musical where the female protagonist looks up to the male king like ruler of the land she lives in, and that ruler takes her in as his apprentice and calls her “the daughter he never had” only to be revealed to be doing devious stuff, causing the female protagonist to turn against him and swear to take him down. Watch the musical Wicked. This is actually the third time Disney has copied that show. First there was Frozen, where Idina Menzel plays a girl with magical powers that isolates her from everyone else, and then when people see her and her powers as a threat, she declares in her power ballad, “I may be alone but at least I’m free.” And then there was Maleficent. Where they took the premise of “Tell the entire life story of an iconic female villain that recontextualizes her actions as not being evil at all.”

There are many concepts in the wish book. Star looking like a younger version of Asha's gramps is one of them. Starboy and Asha being love interests are not confirmed but is suspected despite the song writer saying they wanted At All Costs to be multi purpose song that can be used at weddings too. I've watched the interview that showed a clip of Starboy and Asha escaping the queen and her men. The producer said they cut it out because they want Asha to be able to things without help which I think is hogwash.

Yeah, I'm in the "The original idea was way better" crowd too, its become a hyper fixation as of late for me. 😂 Who can blame these people for being pissed? They had an original movie that combined all the great parts of Disney's movies into one, while doing something new, with a unique love story, villain power couple, incredible parallels between the heroes and villains and 2D ANIMATION! It sounded like a true celebration and a story a century in the making! Hell, I loved the original so much, I posted part of a deleted scene on my channel from its first ideas!
